  • Apple slams story of cash hidden in Jersey to reduce taxes, calls itself 'largest taxpayer...

In my opinion, this is just more evidence that the United States needs to switch to a consumption tax model rather than an income tax model ala the Fairtax. Fairtax.org

  • Apple registers Russian trademarks for three new MacBooks ahead of Oct. 27 event

Looks like the big news will be new ports, GPUs, and the OLED bar. And then in 2 years we'll actually get a meaningful bump in CPU power, hopefully from Apple's own ARM chip.

All versions of Mac OS X ran on intel processors, so that's no indication of whether they'll switch to ARM or not.  I'm really hoping that the lowest-end-new-MacBook runs on a custom ARM chip.  I think it'd be an awesome and "courageous" step forward for them and I very well may get onboard with one just for college purposes!  :)

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook calls EU tax ruling 'total political crap,' cites potential anti-US sentiment

I don't think that's a good argument for Tim Cook to make, that this is a grab for US taxes, because Apple doesn't PAY US Taxes on those profits and keeps it offshore to avoid paying US Taxes.
That's because the "repatriation tax" is 35%.  Thirty-five percent!!!  That's like saying, "GadgetDon, you're doing such a great job at making money in a country other than your home, we'll just take over a third of it if you decide to bring it back into the United States!"  That's money that, to Apple, just goes into the ether, never to be seen again.

This is is why I'm a supporter of the National Sales Tax, with a pre-rebate to protect the poor.
