  • Apple will continue including EarPods with iPhone 12 in France

The whole EarPods/adapter thing left me a bit disappointed.  It would have been nice to have an Apple Gift Card for $38 in there ($19/ea for EarPods/adapter) to buy what you wanted.  Cost to Apple:  not much; the box could have been the same size, and offer to shred the card when done.  Then, they could have used that to up sell to AirPods, or whatever...

I know its not a big deal, but the virtue signaling said to me:
”You’re losing $38 of value while we save the planet.  Any complaints, and you’re a planet killing pig.  Now, on with the show!”
Did you consider the fact that maybe you’re getting $38 or more of higher internal component cost compared to your equivalent phone last year?  I’ve got plenty of charging bricks and headphones plus AirPods.  I’d prefer they make a more amazing phone and not charge me extra for it.  They’re going to build 28% of net margin either way.  Would you prefer to pay $737 for your iPhone 12 mini instead of $699 so that you can have the charger and EarPods?

  • Apple sues recycler for allegedly reselling 100,000 devices it was hired to scrap

If Geep is in any way a part of the new Quantum organization then Quantum is very likely liable.  Just like Bayer is still dealing with the Monsanto lawsuits related to RoundUp herbicide issues.  Merging, getting purchased or reorganizing doesn’t generally remove liability for the new combined entity.

  • Judge so far 'not convinced' on Epic's antitrust stance in 'Fortnite' battle

    • Bornstein says that console markets taking 30% is fundamentally different than Apple, since consoles generally operate at a loss

Why is that fundamentally different?  Apple isn’t allowed to make money on the equipment and the App Store?  That seems like a preference of Bornstein but nothing that would hold up in court.  To me the App Store commission percentage between platforms is completely relevant and should stand on its own.  If Epic is fine with Sony and Nintendo charging 30% then he must be fine with Apple doing the same.  How was that not ruled on in summary judgement??

  • Apple says Epic Games dispute is a 'marketing campaign' to boost 'Fortnite'

A counterpoint: if Fortnite participation is down 70% then it means that they can no longer idly ignore the 30% transaction fees.
I recognize that you may not agree with the strategy and are just playing the devil’s advocate. This may actually be Epic’s thinking.  However, my response would be that this is a terrible way for a business to look at their model and choose as the plan for their way forward.  It would be so much wiser to innovate new content on your current games or to introduce new viral games.  Creating content that people will want to use is a much more profitable venture than trying to get a bigger chunk of a shrinking pie.

I used to play the Infinity Blade series and liked it, but they kept the story line so small and repeating.  The graphics were amazing at the time, but it just got old because there were only a couple hours of actual content that got reused over and over.

  • Apple kills off Barclays Credit Card financing in favor of Apple Card

The current standard interest rate is $13.99?? The article already shows that it’s been edited at least once.  How’d that one get missed?
