The question I have is, if you're kissing off 35% of your customers, where do the replacements come from?  I doubt you can grow the base back by adding a bunch of ported iOS apps.  I will probably be one of them because, although I stopped running Parallels a long time ago, I need the option for work stuff.

Okay, I’ll accept the concept of being able to order parts from Apple much like walking into a Ford dealer’s parts department and ordering a genuine Ford part. But there should be iron clad protections to prevent Apple from being sued for a repair gone wrong or an injury from such failed repair. And it should be clearly declared that Apple is NOT responsible to provide warranty repairs on a device in which a third party or individual repair was attempted but not successful. If you buy a genuine Apple battery and it blows up on your face as you try to wedge it in your self-disassembled device it’s not Apple’s fault unless you can prove the battery was defective to being with. Somehow, though, I think the right-to-repair crowd wants to have its cake and eat it too. I broke my iMac trying to take it apart, now fix it Apple or else.
Even if they said the warranty would be void if repaired by a third party, eliminating your theoretical straw man, at least we would have access to parts and be able to exercise our own judgment.

  • Apple declares iPad 2 obsolete eight years after Steve Jobs launched it

Who's taking an iPad 2 in for a $100(?) repair, when new ones are $249 on Amazon?

  • Apple plays consumer safety card in 'Right to Repair' fight

It’s “quash”, not “squash”.   You can squash a bug, but you must quash an argument.

  • Student sues Apple for $1 billion over false arrest linked to facial recognition tech

There is less than no basis to his complaint: he will likely get nothing, including no settlement. His complaint should not be directed at Apple or the security firm, as they did nothing directly to facilitate his arrest. The arrest was the result of a presumably lawfully issued warrant, so his whining about the conduct of the police and courts will do no good. Hint: this is not a matter of false arrest. He should take responsibility for his loss of his temporary identification and find another way to snatch his "15 minutes of fame!"
Let’s drag you out of bed at 5AM for a crime you didn’t commit, using an arrest warrant based on a picture that doesn’t look like you, and see if you don’t do a little “whining”.
