    1) You guys are killing it with these in-depth A/V reviews.

    2) Since there is so much possibility for alteration of the original sound between uploading to YouTube and playing on whatever speaker system one may have, is it feasible to have a visual display of the audio playback that would be useful to the viewer?

    3) Have you done far-field mic tests yet? From my experience on a scale of 1–10 of voice activated services:

    1 = iPhone
    2 = Apple Watch
    5 = Echo Dot (2G)
    6 = Echo (1G)
    7 = Echo Plus
    11 = HomePod

    I thought the original Echo was magical but the HomePod blows them all out of the water. Even at the loudest volume, from across the room or even out of the room, it picks up my commands.
    I agree. She even picks up something that sound like Hey Siri on occasion, the volume will lower and she says "Hmmm?".  I just laugh and tell her never mind.
    Did you read what Amazon does so that "Alexa" being said on their ads doesn't get picked up by all the Echos? If not, long story short, the Echos listen for a certain signal which when received will then ignore the wake word while that signal is present. I read that's proprietary tech, but I'd assume that Google and Apple also have their own implementations.
    My Echo in the living room sometimes picked up something from my TV when I watched movies at night and that scared the fck out of me. It was so creepy, seriously.

  • Verizon to join other carriers in temporarily locking new iPhones

    Well that is why I buy only unlocked devices and I do not rely on Verizon sold units. Not worth it. If they lock my devices... well meet my attorney.
    You know carriers cannot lock your unlocked phone unless you install the carrier specific software, right?

  • Nest absorbed into Google to better battle HomeKit, Alexa for home automation supremacy

    Nest thermostat sucks for the price and implementation . I hate the dial and click. Had it for a month and got rid of it. Ecobee blows it out of water!

  • Lesser-known Android phone makers copy look of Apple's iPhone X

    Apple's goal with the iPhone X was to make a phone that was ALL screen with no bezels. So, some genius says "Hey, since we don't want to make a small bezel above the screen to put the camera and FaceID technology, let's put the bezel IN the screen!!"  ...and thus the iPhone X was born.  A smartphone maker following that idiotic idea is a kin to how the trend of wearing one's pants with the waits below the butt so the underwear is showing and you have to walk with your legs spread in order to keep the pants up. One person who I guess was considered cool, started that trend and someone said, "Hey, I'm gonna wear my pants that way too!!"  ...and thus that idiotic trend was born.
    It’s funny, actually. The more I ponder over the notch, the more I’ve come to realize how stupid it is to NOT use the space on either side of the sensor and speaker. Why waste space? You don’t have to use it to watch videos, unless you want to. For the rest of the time, it can display status info like battery power and the time, etc. Why would you just put an ugly useless black bezel all the way across instead? Doing that seems more akin to something that hampers your effectiveness, like wearing your pants low so that you can’t walk properly. Just sayin’...
    Not only that, because of the blackout of both sides of the screen in android phones, they had to black out the bottom screen (thicker bezel) to make the phone look proportional. That caused the phone to lose more screen estate and made it look a lot longer (Note 8).
