I bought two recently and, as someone else noted, I have not been blown away by the sound quality or “room-filling sound”. At $299 the didn’t break the bank. However, the lack of line-in for my vinyl record player still leaves me unhappy with the product overall. That clearly is designed to protect Apple Music subscriptions. Three out of a possible five stars, IMO.

  • Apple Watch & AirPods play a bigger role in Apple's ecosystem than you think

    Connecting, disconnecting, and reconnecting AirPods to Apple Watch is more fiddly than it should be at this point. (I've owned an iPhone since the 3G and ordered the Series 0 minutes after it dropped.) If my AirPods are in my ears and I open the Apple Watch's Music app, I just want the AirPods connected. When I close the Music app on my watch, I want them disconnected and available to a different audio device—just like my iPhone and Apple TV. Also, while using Apple Music on the Watch has gotten better, downloading Overcast podcasts to the watch and playing them is such a pain that I just use my phone.

  • Amazon Prime raising annual subscription to $139

    I order as much as I can from Amazon, weekly, and I never pay for shipping. I opt for free shipping that often is listed as arriving in a week, but which almost always arrives no more than 4 days after purchase.I don’t need lightbulbs or snow boots in two days. I have Apple One, therefore, have no need for Prime Video or Music. Also, I stopped buying books on Amazon in an effort to support independent online booksellers.

    We have FreshDirect food delivery, which is about the same annual cost as Prime, for truly unlimited food deliveries. I order fresh food from there twice a week.

    I had become a Prime member a few times since the service began, due to free trial membership offers. Every time I did the numbers on shipping costs and, surprise, found that $0 for shipping is less than any dollars for shipping. There is no need for me to pay for Prime just to have the broad selection and convenience of Amazon.

    Apple acquired P. A. Semi in 2008. I would guess they began their transition efforts at that point or earlier.
