Apple smart ring could use U1 chip to detect when wearer points at devices
“Hey Siri where are my keys” spins around, haptic feedback when facing in the right direction.
Touch ID on ring to unlock/lock.
Gestures or side or corner touches on ring to activate shortcuts. Anything from call 911 to turn on lights to tell friends I’ve arrived at the bar.
Most functions could be done with a watch but with a watch any interaction requires 2 hands. Ring allows one handed (actually just thumb and forefinger) operation leaving 1 1/2 hands free. Eg opening door while carrying groceriesStill going to be a hard sell but the watch and to a certain extent the AirPod line, has expanded the physical universe of interactive devices to wearables. What if rings aren’t metal but fabric? -
Wacom defends itself against data harvesting accusations
As to he why a tablet wants to know what programs you are using, I think that would be to see what programs its use sears are using. That would be important information if you want to make your product more useful to your users. As Robin pointed out the fact that Wacom passes the raw data to Google does is not mitigated by the fact that they get less complete data back. -
Apple Card vs Amazon Prime Rewards Visa: which credit card offers the most cash back and b...
In speaking of the Amazon prime card you state
“At checkout time, you can choose to reduce the price by using this cashback figure. All credit card experts say no, though, don't do it. Pay the full price and let your cashback accrue through the month.”
I can see no logic to this. If your points have a greater value than cash then it makes sense to save them and spend them in a way that gives greater value than cash. If not which is the case with the Amazon card, use the cash back as soon as you can. Your not earning interest on it, and if you carry a balance (which is almost always the wrong decision) you are paying interest on your purchases. Minimize your carried interest, use your points as soon as you can. There is no benefit I can see on saving points. If you want to save, do it in a way that earns interest.
As far as credit cards in general, your particular spending profile (some times a card with a fee will net more savings than a card without a fee) and overall financial picture will determine which cards are best for you. The Points Guy and NerdWallet are reasonable places to start. They are, like most everything, financed by advertising and may not review cards offered by everyone but they are good resources none the less.

Bipartisan encryption bill would create special congressional commission on encryption
"Specifically, the commission's raison d'etre would be to review the repercussions of denying law enforcement access to encrypted communications, then make recommendations on how best to tackle the critical issue."
Whats missing? Any guesses?
Specifically what is not said is that there will be any attempt to even discuss the repercussions of weakening encryption or encryption protection.
This is a committee set up solely to talk about what is lost to state security due to encryption, while totally ignoring what is gained.
We might as well set up a committee to discuss how freedom of the press leads to civil unrest and how we need to temper the right to discuss maters of privacy and politics if such discussions might possibly jeopordize security. Or how the inability to torture criminal suspects means we get fewer confessions and that therefore more guilty criminals are roaming our streets like wise causing a diminution in our security.
What kind of govenment would make those arguments. Sounds like a very insecure Russian Oligarchy or something.
Oh wait ....
Never mind.
Nothing to see here.
