The standard for USB varies even though it may look the same, but it isn’t. Have fun people the EU (politicians) didn’t think that through.

The EU Regulation is about charging only. It basically asks the manufacturer of devices with batteries to provide the possibility to charge it with a standard USB3 Cable. That’s also the case for bicycle lights that can’t transfer data at all. On the other hand Apple could have continued offering the Lightening Port as long as there is the alternative to also use a USB3 port. The MacBooks are a good example. They have the proprietary MagSave connector but you can also use one of the USB3 ports for charging. That’s in line with the EU regulation.

I got the new Apple case and so far I‘m positively surprised. I was expecting worse. I don’t think the sides are much different from the back. They also show the fine woven texture, likely from the same material. Just the padding underneath is harder. The main issue will be how the case ages over time. Like with sneakers, jeans or wooden furniture, aging can add a nice and pleasing patina. If this will also by the case with the new Apple cases, time will tell. It can go both direction – shabby and worn out or nicely worn in with character and patina.

I’m a professional film maker and apart from dedicated digital film cameras I quite often also use my iPhone for professional work. To me it sort of replicates the look of typical high-end TV cameras. Small sensor, therefor a high depth of field and a slightly over-sharped but attractive image. A proper digital film camera on the other hand feels more like shooting on film stock to me. Both has it’s place in my work. But I would never do a handheld shot on a iPhone for professional work. It is either on a tripod or stabilised with other means.

You are (also) dealing with analogue signal processing at incredibly high frequencies. Designing a microprocessor is stacking up Lego bricks, designing a G5 modem is wizardry and magic with thrown in quantum effects. So to speak.

Intel's offerings until just recently have remained stagnant on the Xeon side.  It's only right to compare it with Apple's current Mac Pro offerings, even though it's 2 years old.  It's still incredible how Apple has pushed the performance envelope in those two years where Intel was nowhere to be seen.

While AMD's offerings is also impressive, when compared in terms of performance-per-watt, ASi outperforms them both.

Honestly, I don’t understand why Apple is so emphasis on performance/watt. Sure save energy is good and less noise from fan. But no one really care if their $100000 sports car use much less gas than the next car. People care about how fast it can go and how it handle the corner, not gas/miles.

The low power consumption also indicates how much room there still is for further performance gains. Desktop systems are usually limited by their power consumption and more important by the heat that has to be dispersed from tiny areas on the dyes. Apple proves that they have plenty of headroom with their chip design.
