ACLU says US border agents have 'near-unfettered' ability to seize iPhones, other devices

Apple's temporary Fifth Avenue store coping with bed bug infestation
Mike Wuerthele said:ApplefanboyOMG said:I’m commenting to kindly request that Appleinsider and the author of this blog please edit the first paragraph to remove the last sentence that speculates the infestation was caused by “homeless people.” I would kindly suggest that this is not your best work. It is an unnecessarily and hurtful speculation that needlessly demonizes an entire group of people. Also, speaking as a New Yorker who has unfortunately had extensive experience both having bed bugs and then successfully getting rid of them myself, your post reveals you likely aren’t fully aware of how they actually spread. Please edit the original post and perhaps consider cleaning up some of the trolling in the comments here.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughtful response in cleaning this up. I’m a longtime fan of Appleinsider, but to reiterate myself, this is really not your best work. -

Apple partnering with advocacy groups to foster critical thinking and news literacy
SpamSandwich said:The US is not a democracy. It’s more akin to a representative democratic republic. People thinking the Federal government operates as a democracy is part of why people are so misinformed and emotionally overwrought these days. Remember when people were screaming and crying that their preferred candidate won the “popular vote”? The popular vote is irrelevant!
Source: I am a political scientist. "We're a republic, not a democracy" sets my teeth on edge: it's almost always used in a partisan, not a scholarly, context, to mean not much more than "the majority wants something I don't want." If you want a similar argument from a libertarian point of view, see, for example, https://mises.org/wire/stop-saying-were-republic-not-democracy.
ps. I agree with you about the Electoral College. Them's the rules. -
