  • US iPhone install base continuing to grow but at a slower rate than 2017

As a professor who has my students use devices in class from time to time, I have to ask what they're using to anticipate any technical issues (eg. unfortunately one of the critical programs for my classes is only licensed for Windows on campus even though it's available for Mac). Mac/Windows is about 50/50 in most classes. iOS/Android is about 65/35. These are traditional age (18-22) students at a high quality but not elite private college (about $55k comprehensive fee).

  • Apple got tablets right, and created a whole new market with the iPad 12 years ago today

Is a jailbroken 1st gen iPad usable as a weekend device(1 to 2 days a week)?
My iPad 2 has gotten to the point where it's not really usable anymore. I don't know if the hardware has decayed or the software has just gotten more demanding or both, but even with older apps it seems a lot slower than it used to. Sometimes I wonder if I should've stayed on an older version of iOS instead of upgrading.

  • Lawsuit blaming Apple's FaceTime for fatal car crash dismissed

    maestro64 said:
I want to know how everyone else in the car that was hit was not seriously injured, only the 5 year old, wonder if the parent did something wrong and now they feel guilty and want someone else to pay for their guilt.
You have absolutely no responsible basis for that allegation, even if it were true that only the child was seriously injured. The article says that the father was also in critical condition after the accident. At least read the article before you spout off about a situation that you know nothing about in which a child died and the grieving parent probably already blames himself in part for failing to somehow magically anticipate getting rear-ended at 65mph.

Just to be clear, my reaction here has nothing to do with the lawsuit.

  • Cumulative App Store titles declined for first time in 2017, report says

There are way too many crappy apps in both stores, in my experience. Android's probably leading in part because the approval process is laxer and in part because with Google having fixed the worst problems with forking the global market is much larger. Profits to the side, of course, but as I don't invest in either company I don't care about that.

  • What history teaches about Apple's windows of opportunity for 2017

As somebody who's interested in the products, not the financials, and actually owns an old Mac Pro, I'm still allowed to want an up to date Mac Pro, right? Or should I just shut up about it, because I should care more about Apple's profitability?
