  • iPhone 15 Pro Max lands with 5x optical zoom, faster USB-C

Sorry so many are disappointed…I’m still running a 6S (*with* the original battery) which replaced a stolen 6+ & is giving up the ghost, so I’m pretty solidly pleased with the new offering.

As a photographer, I find the 15PM a basket of very welcome improvements over the 6;  since I’m old & poor, this will likely be the last phone I (live long enough to) get…& 256GB is also a very welcome bump to the 6S’s 64

Figuring $45/mo for it vs $35-40/mo for the now-‘old’ 14PM makes it super-easy to choose…

  • A7: How Apple's custom 64-bit silicon embarrassed the industry

Mel, I think you mischaracterize the article:  the one I just read covered the exact subject line quite well IMO.

Then again, as an Apple watcher since the 70s, I find Daniel’s articles to be clear, plainly factual, and very well-written.  They also accord very (*very*) closely with my own recollections, personal knowledge and experiences in the industry during the periods in question.

  • What Apple is holding back for iOS 13.1

Having trouble sorting out iOS 13 from PadOS 13.1? It’s easy: iOS comes out the 19th for your phone; PadOS 13.1 comes out the 30th for iPads. If you don’t have an iPad, PadOS means nothing to you, so quit whining. If you have iPhone and upgrading is a confusing, time-sucking terror for you, you’ve got a long, frustrating life ahead of you. I suggest learning breath control.

  • iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone 11 Pro Max -- Hands on and first impressions

Someone stole my 6 Plus, and a friend loaned me an Android, which I used while I paid off the gone phone.
It was a Samsung Galaxy (2?) and honestly, I hated it, used it as little as possible, for as little as possible, and just generally hated using it.

I could not get rid of it quickly enough.  I replaced my phone with a 6s, which I still have.  I will never get another Android.  The friend didn’t want the phone back...and it turns out everyone I know who uses Android has a pile of old dead phones lying around;  when it’s mentioned, they typically sigh and shrug.

”At least they’re not Apple phones!” they say

  • Editorial: 'iPhone 11' design will advance Apple's mobile imaging lead

Good to see work from Daniel, as always.

In the comments, funny to hear iPhone called the ‘good-enough’ option without a word about how Apple established a whole new standard for such cameras and continues to raise the bar for smartphone photography.  It seems there are many people who have many smartphones, and their comments seem unrealistic to me:  I consider myself extremely lucky to have a device which doubles as a high-quality pocketable camera.  I would no more go buy a different smartphone for some effete featurette than I would go buy a new car because I liked its rims better than my other one.

sounds like too much money, too little appreciation, too much free time, too small an audience....
