Meta's Edits is an alternative to CapCut, as Apple forgets about Clips
Apple can't really do social media without being cross platform. While Apple pretty much enjoys protected status in the US (the major Chinese players aren't allowed to compete) iMessage was able to do its thing (but very limited in scope).
Once you step out of the US it's a different story for IM for example. -
Newly-appointed Apple CFO denies 75% App Store profit claim in UK trial
foregoneconclusion said:avon b7 said: The solution is to make the App Store stand on its own two feet without strings from the mothership all over the place and actually make that division accountable for the services it provides.
Prices, whether they are similar or not, aren't the issue in this case. -
Newly-appointed Apple CFO denies 75% App Store profit claim in UK trial
"In response to the barrister's skepticism, Parekh said that "any attempt to allocate these types of costs would involve imprecise and subjective judgments." The prosecution pointed out that Apple was claiming that figuring out the profit margin of the App Store by itself was essentially impossible"
The barrister was right to be skeptical. If Apple cannot find the numbers, it will be by design. It doesn't want to provide the numbers.
The solution is to make the App Store stand on its own two feet without strings from the mothership all over the place and actually make that division accountable for the services it provides.
There is inevitably going to be some crossover with other concepts (and again by design!) but at least a pretty decent figure could be provided.

US senators question big tech, including Apple, on the reason behind inauguration donation...
Cesar Battistini Maziero said:Why don't they question all the lobby money they get?Bunch of hypocrites. The reckoning its coming.
It's not my country but it does make me uneasy seeing how much, money gets invested in 'influence' or whatever you want to call it.
Clearly, something needs to be done on a preventative level and then also, at some point down the road, the situation needs to be investigated to see if the payments (past, present or future) did actually buy favour or not.
Perhaps difficult or impossible to determine.
Looking on from the outside, things look very bleak. Almost the perfect storm forming and everyone only interested in their own potential gains. -
Apple CEO Tim Cook attending Trump inauguration after $1 million donation
godofbiscuitssf said:muthuk_vanalingam said:manwithnoname said:Xed said:manwithnoname said:WOW after of the complete disaster of Biden & Harris, the US economy and the country itself brought to its knees there is still this insane hatred of Trump! Unbelievable. That's and opinion of someone in the UK looking at what has happened to the great nation of the USA of the last four years. Tim Cook knows big change is coming and all he is doing is positioning himself and Apple to take advantage of that.
No, I don't read the propaganda, unlike you. You are looking and believing an illusion. You will learn, eventually. You hope Trump fails but he will not.
Did Trump put tariffs in place? He sure did.
"The impact of the tariffs has been severe. US soybean exports to China were brought to a virtual halt, dropping over 90 percent and costing farmers roughly $7.9 billion in lost sales. But the tariff story has multiple levels. Selling less soybeans to China meant that US farmers would also have to bear the additional cost of placing more of their crops into storage facilities. The price tag associated with storage however has now gone up, thanks to the previous tariffs placed on the steel and aluminum products required in the construction of storage facilities. In fact, the cost of steel used in grain storage bins has risen 20 percent. Adding further insult to injury, these same steel tariffs are also raising the price of a wide range of farm equipment and machinery. It’s a bit mind-boggling to reflect on the vicious cycle: Chinese tariffs – put in place in response to US tariffs – are substantially reducing US soybean sales and requiring greater storage capacity — the price of which has now gone up thanks to a previous and unrelated round of tariffs. Perhaps not surprisingly, farm bankruptcies in the US Midwest are at record levels."

The US Midwest was Trump country and his previous administration had to pump billions into agriculture to keep the industry afloat.
Conclusion: use tariffs wisely.
Has the incoming administration taken stock of what happened last time around?
Everyone will find out soon.
Tim Cook has a duty to do what he thinks is best for the company. Rubbing Trump up the wrong way obviously wouldn't be very productive so the only other option is to try to navigate the US-China geopolitical waters as best he can. There is whitewater ahead.
