Verizon's '5G' home broadband to launch on Oct. 1, free Apple TV 4K included
This sounds interesting. I like my Xfinity but it’s expensive. I pay $50 extra per month so I don’t have to deal with overages. We usually need 1.5-2tb a month with gig speed which is actually around 700mb down. I wonder if the gigbit speed will be expensive with them. I could get that and HBO and Stars on my Apple TV and make out like a bandit. Everyone streams mostly everything anyway in my home. -
US lawmakers query Apple, Alphabet CEOs over smartphone personal data policies
I totally agree with Nunzy and Macseeker. I feel much safer with Apple than I do with any other service. I'm not a Googler and I stay away from other social apps like Facebook, Instagram and free services like Spotify, Gmail, Pandora etc etc. If someone truly wants your info they will get it. There have been too many breaches like Target and greatest of all Equifax. No one that I can recall was arrested for Equifax btw. Now I get several phishing emails and spam calls so I know some stuff is out there already. Sure you can aggregate as much data as possible to profile someone but I feel somewhat better with Apple because I'm not the product. I spend LOTS OF MONEY on the products. Maybe they will try to enact some policy inspired by the way Apple tries to protect our data. -
Supreme Court will hear Apple's appeal about iPhone App Store antitrust suit
Isn’t this how MS got sucker punched into letting Netscape onto Windows? Without Apple there would be no platform or iPhone hardware. It was developed by them with billions in research and development. If I don’t like the walled garden I can jump the fence and grab an Android phone from any number of manufacturers. The whole world can do the same. I don’t see how it’s a monopoly or hurts the consumer but then again I’m not a lawyer either. The App Store has made billions for developers who otherwise would not be as successful or would have even started at all. The majority of features are the same on all phones in some form. The hardware is the key now. Apple’s market share isn’t even as big as android. I just don’t get it. -
Data of 31 million users of iPhone add-on keyboard ai.type potentially leaks
I think the EULA should clearly spell out what companies get from you within the first couple of sentences. Like we are going to collect all the info on your phone and store it on our servers and sell it to other companies to pay for your free service. Second what happens to the company if they fail to keep your data safe and customer options for remediation. All the other legal techno get out of jail free card stuff should come third but be understood by a layman.
Personally I love the Apple implementation of requiring their keyboard when entering passwords. I don’t use any other keyboards but I tried swipe years ago. My android friends kept raving about swiping but it just didn’t get me. The walled garden works for me.
“Free” always makes me wonder what the TRUE cost is. -
Roku unveils $70 Streaming Stick+ with 4K & HDR, faster Express & Express+ models
Price drives some people. Features drives others. I want the best product with the best features for the money I can afford to spend. Those features for me are in the Apple TV 4K. I want Dolby Vision and HDR 10. Atmos will come later with an update. I’m also deep into the Apple ecosystem. Movies, music, apps, Apple Music, and storage. I love it when everything works together for my good. Vudu even has an app on Apple TV so I no longer have Ultraviolet issues when redeeming my digital copies.
I hate ads on my streaming services though so Roku would never be an option for me. Cheaper isn’t always better but enhancements (hardware and user experience) always cost more.
Apple’s fan base is intact they’ll buy again and again. Sog35 pretty much nailed it for me with his comments.
