Developer adoption of Apple's ARKit tepid after iOS 11 launch, data suggests
I think this was kind of predictable: until Apple comes out with glasses that project the Augmentation directly in front of you, AR use cases strong enough to convince someone to hold a phone up for prolonged periods of time are pretty slim.
There was an iOS AR application called Layar (sp?) as long back as 6 years ago. It was actually pretty nifty: you'd hold up your phone at a street corner and it would point out where different shops/restaurants were in a distance (it might have even drawn arrows for directions - can't remember). While pretty useful, you got tired pretty quickly holding up the phone while navigating to the points of interest.
Once glasses debut, there will be tons of apps using ARKit - guaranteed. The distribution of ARKit now was just to whet developer's appetites. -
Home security camera company Blink bought out by Amazon
A few weeks ago I asked Blink customer support whether there were any plans for HomeKit support since I’m automating my home using it and my existing 3 Blink cameras were an island onto themselves. The answer was “none”. Now I know why :-(
I wouldn’t have minded HomKit incompatibility so much - especially when they announced the $99 door bell - but I don’t want my house monitored by cameras owned by companies who make money off knowing more about me. I can just see it: in some future “Terms of Service” update, there’ll be some fine print about Amazon being now allowed to “parse” my video clips stored on their servers to better “serve” me. Next thing you know i’ll start seeing Miele vacuum cleaner ads because they recognized my vacuum model in one of those clips :-( -
New Apple AirPods with smaller components could launch in late 2018

Reminds me when I got the first iPod Shuffle. White, one little light, very simple design. And it achieved 80% market share the Friday after it was released!
Best.
P.S. I would really recommend them to everyone.
Even the lack of volume control and skip track - which I initially griped about - turns out to be a non-issue. At least for Apple Watch owners - since when you play music, those controls automatically appear on the watch face. Volume control is adjusted by turning the crown, you get skip/back/pause, and track title too.
My only continued quibbles with AirPods are minor and revolve around the design: I don't have particularly big hands, but sometimes I struggle to get those things out of their case. They're so damn slippery and rounded - no place to get a grip! Also, I found out the hard way that while the AirPods themselves are relatively water proof, the case definitely is not! So don't do like me and forget them in your jeans pocket when you start the wash :-( Maybe a rubber seal around the lid? That would also help with the loud sound whenever you close the lid - has woken up my wife on a couple occasion (the lid is slippery too!). Also, things get pretty cruddy around the hinges if you keep 'em in your pocket.
Easy, but you have to do it with awareness. Very Zen. Gruber's video is how I found out about the trick.
You're awesome man - Thanks! Can't believe how easy it is - and, sadly, why I've never (except maybe by chance) tried it that way! I nearly always do it the 'wrong' way :-) -

As I have said many times, a few additional colours would help drive demand.
