I take it you don’t remember the MacBook that came in either black or white and the black option was significantly more expensive but technically the same and only different in color. 

No, it also had a larger hard drive. 

I don’t necessarily see a compelling reason to upgrade between the 6s and XS, but, I’m a little surprised to see the SE isn’t much faster than the 5s. Perhaps I’m remembering incorrectly, but I thought the SE had mostly 6s internals for all but the front display components. Guess this was one of the areas they didn’t boost to 6s specs.

Yeah I’d agree. If the 5 Had been slightly wider it would have been a more balanced design. There’s a tipping point that one has to protect against when using it with one hand. The 4 was perfectly sized and balanced in the hand. 

If they do do a new SE, I’d like to see it slightly wider, which they actually have to do to keep the XS aspect ratio. But I wouldn’t mind seeing it slightly shorter too ...

That said, I much prefer the metal back of the 5 to the glass back of the 4. Then again, it seems he phones have come full circle, so the days of metal backs are probably over ...

Just imagine how much worse this could be using USB-C with no regulation

If the rumors are true and Apple's original content is offered free on Apple products, then you won't have to. It's up to you whether you watch it, and then whether you decided to subscribe to your preferred services through Apple, or continue to subscribe to them individually though a handful of desperate apps scattered around your devices.
