  • iOS 12 users must unlock their iPhones every hour to maintain USB connections

The cat and mouse game begins. The government is now treated like jailbreakers.

Does this break carplay, since you could be driving more than hour and be hooked up to the car via lightning port. Imagine your driving and your navigation stopped since the lightning port just shut off.
It shouldn't be a problem in your example. My understanding is the disablement happens as a combination of there isn't a Lightning/USB connection in use AND the phone hasn't been unlocked in the past hour.
    1)  Is the connection for CarPlay considered a USB connection?

    2) It doesn't take me an hour to fill up. Perhaps if I was on the road and decided to stop for fuel and then eat at a restaurant next door I might spend more than an hour not having my iPhone plugged in.
I would say CarPlay is considered a USB connection. If you are using apps such as Apple Maps or TuneIn Radio, data is being transferred.

  • Watch and hear HomePod's multi-room audio with stereo playback on iOS 11.4

So does it add any features that are actually useful?

I don't have and will not buy one of those ridiculously overpriced speakers, let alone two of them.
Adding multi-room audio and stereo paring to a speaker isn't considered useful?

    Apple HomePod - $350
    Google Home Max - $400
    JBL Link 500 - $400

    Ridiculously overpriced?

  • Waze for iPhone gets dash display, voice control in Ford vehicles

The update actually came out last month, but Waze didn't mention it until the latest update. Technically it's not available on all Ford vehicle's with Sync 3. Some Sync 3 vehicles need the upgraded USB port, which enables CarPlay (you have to disable CarPlay to use Applink). You also need to be on Sync 3 ver 3.0. It's cool Waze paired up with Ford for this, but the way it works isn't very user friendly unfortunately. When you are using Waze, your iPhone becomes useless. Waze always has to be running on the phone. If you minimize the app and make a call for example, Waze disappears.

  • Kuo: Apple losing AR lead to low-cost competitors, lack of software innovation to blame

So the two platforms that can run this start of the art title are tens of millions of iPhones and some phone by a company that made a name for itself with a niche upscaling DVD player?   Can anyone in America even buy an OPPO phone?  Oh, is OPPO the latest iPhone killer??
Those are two different divisions. Oppo Digital only makes top of the line blu ray players and other audio/video equipment. Oppo Electronics makes the phones. Although both are owned by the same company, Oppo Digital (Blu ray players) is run independently here in California. Oppo blu ray players, espeically their 4K blu ray players are the best in the industry imo. It's too bad they decided to end manufacturing.

Can't EMEI's be used to block phones?
Yes, but just say a phone is stolen then sold overseas, the overseas provider won't know the EMEI is blocked.
