Apple pauses iOS 18, macOS 15 work to stomp bugs now
My first reaction was “Only a week? This is mostly a PR stunt.”
But some folks here who know a lot more about software development seem to think it’s a reasonable thing, so I defer to them.
I wish they would do this once a quarter though…just devote a week for intensive bug quashing as a regular part of the development process (in addition to on-going efforts).
I do a lot of audio work and I miss the days of being able to say to my Windows using friends that the MacOS “just works” without the host of problems they were plagued with. As Windows has improved and the MacOS has become more problematic in some aspects, I say that a lot less. -
Apple's 2023 CarPlay is an Apple Car preview - and is scaring Detroit
jetpilot said:Has anyone yet considered the possibility that this new CarPlay IS the "apple car" project?
Remember when everyone thought the “Apple TV” was going to be a physical TV? Turns out to have been the important bits of the TV; Apple left the low margin stuff to the manufacturers while also offering a desirable addition that improved the experience for the user and that the manufacturers wanted / needed to remain competitive.
Same play here.

Rogue Amoeba quits 'restrictive' Mac App Store
Rogue Amoeba makes fantastic stuff, and they are a solid developer. If an outfit like that is leaving, I hope Apple takes notice and gives some consideration to the reasons. I’m probably the original definition of Apple fanboy, but inaction or indifference when it comes to what appears to be a growing issue is never a good thing. -
Pro audio glitch with T2-equipped Macs associated with USB 2.0 connections
There are plenty of pro level interfaces that still use USB2 and cost “more than $600”. That’s beside the point anyway. I think the larger issue is that such an obvious pro audio use case was not tested for nor caught by beta testers...which makes me wonder if pro audio apps and use cases are even considered as Apple “innovates”.
