  • Apple to integrate Qualcomm's 5G chips in iPhone by 2020, report says

This would be a great time for Apple to abandon the annual media circus it holds every September.   The circus like atmosphere and the build up create what is invariably disappointment in what are always great products  -- if for no other reason than the build up combined with media's penchant for reporting negativity rather than positivity.

For myself, It is time to upgrade at least one of our phones.  But there is no way that I would want to buy a phone that is soon to be obsolete.  That is my feeling and I can pretty much guarantee that will be the feeling in the media as well.  People just don't keep phones for a year or two anymore and the media will be merciless if Apple tries to pawn a 4G phone off on us.

But, on the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to wait a few months till Apple can come out with a product I would want to live with for the next 4-5 years.  If Apple does decide to go ahead with its September circus, then I assume they will announce a 5G phone that will soon be available.  Otherwise...
Apple isn't going to give up on the yearly profit on phones nor drop the September launch time since that Maximizes profit, and am I wrong but hasn't every smartphone this year so far not been 5G, I know there are special variants like the Moto Mod and Samsung Galaxy 5G version, but none being the mainstream device, so I see no reason for Apple not to follow the same path, though I don't think they will have a 5G Pro variant.

As far as whether you'll upgrade or not. I have determined I'll be happy to keep my now 4 year old phone every year now that they don't go to 5G, as that is $1000 that isnt needed to be spent and would inevitably save $1000 down the line assuming it pushes my future upgrades linearly. Your needs and though of course might well not be that.

  • Apple working on ways to use an iPad as a display for the Mac

I’ve been hoping for this reverse airplay like feature for a while. Even if they limit it to USB C devices, that will make it very convenient for people working with MacBook Pros, etc. to use.

  • Disney+ streaming service debuts on Nov. 12 for $6.99 a month

So while Netflix probably yawned at the Apple TV+ announcement, Disney+ certainly worries them.

Additionally, this puts a boundary price on Apple TV+.

I'm still curious about Hulu's future. Doesn't Disney own 51% of Hulu through its 20th Century Fox acquisition (I think it owned some % before and that % increased with the acquisition)?

    Apple should buy Disney.

Netflix only worry is Disney has been pulling its content off their service for this. It might take a dent, but Netflix isnt likely going to take a major loss by this.

Apple TV+ will haft to be between $7 and $13 to be practical, that was already known, thought it might influence Apple to drop the target price a $1, though I doubt that since Netflix continues to raise its prices.

Hulu might be losing some of its content as well to the Disney service, but as long as its relatively popular I don't think it is in any real danger.

Apple should most certainly not buy Disney. Disney buying a bunch of companies and covers a series of things from theme parks, toys, tv channels, movie franchises, etc. Not a single thing to do with computers which is what Apple deals with, beyond the fact it would be the biggest buyout in history and Apple shouldn't be doing that at this state.

  • YouTube TV hikes monthly fee to $55 to cover Apple App Store fees, Discovery programming

Hulu with Live TV with the no commercial option (on regular Hulu content) is the clear option in this space now, in my opinion. It has all the same channels and 50 hours of DVR (more than enough considering all the shows that you can watch on demand through regular Hulu) for $51. Since we have Hulu regardless, the equivalent live tv service equates to $39, compared to PSVue, YouTube TV, Directv Now, etc. all at the $50 price (minimum) and a much less robust on-demand section as Hulu’s.
Agreed that if I go for a service it would likely be the Hulu since there on demand library is so vast at the same cost (Youtube just promises ad free youtube videos on top right?).

In general these live streaming TV services are losing their compel, at $35 a month for less channels made sense, now we're seeing $50 a month and climbing it's competing value is lost, as most full TV packages are around $100 while you can find the downgraded with similar channels and similar price before the price drop when bundling internet.

  • Apple's 31.6-inch professional display may arrive soon, 17-inch MacBook Pro in early 2021 ...

90% odds that the display is released the same month as the new Mac Pro. As rumors point, this display is liable to be $2k, so still hope Apple makes a 21-27 4-5k inch model that’s priced at $1k or less.
As for the MacBook Pro, I have had serious doubts Apple would update the chasis this year, and this just confirms it. The addition of a new 17” would make no sense to not update the other chasis (Apple has delayed a few months in the past, but it’s always the same year, and typically they update the old model, and I would doubt they want to keep this current chasis since the keyboard has become a recurring excuse to complain about Apple).
