So let me guess...we'll get a 7S and 7S Plus largely unchanged and then a new redesigned more expensive model used for the upsell. Anything to get people to spend more money and drive up ASPs.
If that seems like an obvious tactic then why haven't they done that before? So far, any additional model has been a low-end, as is with the 5C and SE.
Because it's the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. They want to make a statement device to celebrate that...if this is all true that is.
You're saying they're waiting to "fleece their customers with extra high pricing" because it wasn't a special enough event for them to "steal from their loyal iSheep"? That makes perfect sense¡
No I'm not. I'm just saying the 10th anniversary of such a significant product for Apple and the world does deserve a statement product. And such a product if they do it is going to be expensive and of limited availability due to the high-end components they're going to need to use. Anyway it won't be the only thing available, there still will be upgraded phones with the other two models. Such an event doesn't come around often...when's the next milestone going to arrive? The iPhones 20th?

I am not sure I need an edge to edge design...I know years ago this was the dream by some...I was looking at my 7 plus today and love it. Trying to figure out the benefit of edge to edge...I can't see one.
Edge to edge can't be. The experiment is there: Xiaomi MiMix. They had to keep one of the bezels to place the front camera. So at least one bezel is required. The second bezel too is required for gaming in landscape mode. Philippe Starck has completely ignored the gamers in his avant-garde design. One cannot play games with that thing, kids will hate it.
When people say "edge to edge" I assume they mean the sides, and are not talking about the so-called chin and forehead, which people also want reduced or removed.
Yes, I suspect that maybe Apple wants the screen to completely rap around the sides of the device so as to replace the side buttons and mute switch with touchscreen haptic feedback equivalents. Still I think such functions are best served by the current setup...we'll see.

  • Mac losing focus of Jony Ive, others in Apple management - report

    Ouch.
I personally don't understand how Apple as the largest company in the world with no concerns about cash flow can't have multiple successful product teams going.
How hard is it for them to put out a decent looking updated monitor for example?
The culture there sounds brutal too...?

    Exactly!

Just glad to hear there are new desktops on the way, I was getting a little worried there!
