  • Apple has been working on AR and VR for years, and it will pay off in the 2020 smart glass...

“A patent granted in February 2019 for "Method for representing points of interest in a view of a real environment on a mobile device and mobile device therefor" offers an AR view that overlays a user's surroundings. In this case, Apple mostly refers to the concept for general navigation, superimposing points of interest and associated data in the camera view, allowing users to know roughly where the place is in relation to their own location. “

As as much as I like Apple I can’t see this patent withstanding prior art. Anyone who has read Daniel Suarez’s “Daemon” and “Freedom TM” will know that he has explored this and SO much more. I only hope Apple gets it close to that!

  • Australia passes contentious encryption bill opposed by Apple, other tech companies

The current conservative government in Australia is self-destructing just like the Republicans in the US, hopefully the next government will change this stupid law.
And don't knock Australia's democracy, it is a far more democratic country that the US. No gerrymandering, no dis-enfranchisment of minorities, and a far greater percentage of eligible voters actually get out and vote (on a weekend!) And far, far fewer guns. Oh, and universal healthcare. But I digress...
No Gerrymandering? What planet are you living on? We have electorate and state level Gerrymandering. The whole states of Queensland and South Australia and Tasmania are effectively Gerrymanders.

If you want to see true fascism, the nanny state with its corporatist triumpherate of Big Corporates working with Big Unions enabled by Big Government, watch Australia.  Regulated to enervation.
Do you have any clue at all? The only true statement here is that we have entered a nanny state. But Big Corps working with Big Unions? Give me a break.

  • Seriously, Apple's flagship Macs are now less expensive than ever before

Seriously... I cannot believe you are comparing the present prices with those of over three decades ago. How about you compare against normalised computing prices, since the cost of computing has continued to fall (in real terms) almost continuously in that time. The gouging in price point by Apple has seen a very recent resurgence. Apple needs to stop 'Gordon Geckoiing' it!

  • Apple rumored to have restarted iPhone X production, but motive not clear

More evidence that prices are too high across the board. The phones are not the problem; the prices are. Half of the iPhone’s price increase since it was released a decade ago has come in the last year alone.
I have to agree with Deadpool in this one: at least in Australia. In fact, the price gouge has become so bad here that my families two year tic-tic upgrade cycle has ceased. My wife has decided to stick with her 2year old iPhone and I have no intention of upgrading my X next year. Not when the phone costs more than a laptop!

and to be clear, it’s not just the phones and it’s not just me. Apple lost the ale of at least 5 new Mac minis this year with its outrageous mini pricing.

I fear we we are seeing a return to the stupidity of Apple in the early nineties. I hope not, I have shares!
