  • Google's Gmail, other services let third parties read user emails, report says

Gatorguy, stop justifying and referencing Google EULA, spend some time and educate yourself on legal contracts and agreements. You take the words writing on face value, EULA are filled with weasel words and broad non specific statement and this is done for a reason is allow Google to so pretty much as they like and the burden falls to the user to provide Google's true intent. People knowingly or unknowingly agreeing to things and they do not understand Google's intent behind the words. You have no clue what Googles intent is or was when those EULA were written. I have negotiate agreement and I can tell most of the time is spent on understanding the intend of the words and phases, in most cases some words have very specific legal definition and intent, beyond this you can not assume intent.

As I shared before, at pervious employer I found evidence of Google doing things with their email client in our corporate environment which we had specific guarantees they would not do. I share this with our corporate legal team and their answer was this is the reason Corporate legal and HR were not allowed to use Google mails because Google would not warrant against inappropriate use of information stored on google servers which was company confidential. Google will not warrant or indemnify that your personal information on their servers will not be use for other purposes, the key legal words here is "warrant" and "indemnify".

Please stop saying and trying to convince people Google systems are not reading/analyzing peoples' personal communications. You have no proof to back that statement up, reference the EULA is not proof and it is not worth the webpage it is written on. No one has taken Google to court on their EULA and proven Google's intent behind the EALU and shown exactly what they are doing with information stored on their servers. By the way if you read it, Google reserves the right to update the EULA at any time. So is the user obligate to the current EULA of the one when they first signed up, do you have the copy of the EALU when you first signed up.

  • Drake's Scorpion on Apple Music crushes Spotify in streaming

These metrics does not mean people were actually listening. I stream music in my house on the weekends and I can tell you many times we are not listening to what is playing. Also Spotify stated that they  put the song in their most popular play lists it does not mean people wanted to hear the song or were even listening.

The real metric would be request to hear the song. The current metric is push verses a pull, a pull for content has more meaning.

  • How to disable nagging in-app rating requests on your iPhone or iPad

The app Letgo continues to be released with frequent updates, yet still continues to violate the App Store guidelines in this regard.
Letgo, does more than that, they bug you to upgrade to get premium listing for what your selling, if you search for something everytime someone post the exact item it tells you someone listed an item you have searched for. I think this app is having a problem with their business model, I have better success selling on Craigslist and I do not get hounded.

  • Apple confirms iOS 12's 'USB Restricted Mode' will thwart police, criminal access [u]

We now know Comey lied to Congress and the public about the extent of the issue of how many iPhones they could not get into, as well as telling Congress there was no other way into the iPhone without a back door, all while knowing the FBI was working with a third party to get into the iphone. Notice the FBI can lie to you and everyone else, but if you lie to them you are put in jail, welcome to the world we now live in.

If the idiot just kept his mouth shut and did everything behind closed doors and never told anyone they were having issued cracking the iPhone or they figured out how to get into an iPhone, Apple would not be in this cat and mouse game with the government.

Sorry to make this political statement, but Comey made things far worse than what he thought he was doing with his higher moral ground stance he claimed he was doing for the good of everyone. Because of his politically motivated actions we all will have to deal with the side effect of this and run into possible issue of not working with carplay and other accessories which work through the lightning port. It may be a short term pain since we know Apple is moving to an all wireless world at some point there will be no cables connecting our phones.

It's nice to see these comparison articles.

It's worth adding that being so new, the software will probably see a major upgrade to iron out kinks and add some polish in the next few weeks and imaging will probably be one area that will benefit.

Unfortunately it's a double edged sword because from what I've been reading, the Chinese adore the oversharpened, vibrant colour look and some of the things we see as OTT are actually like that by design.

I think we'll end up with profiles that set base settings for different geographical collectives and then everyone can choose what they like best at the flick of a switch.
This is very true, Different cultures tend to emphasize different things. Back in the day I worked for a company which did compressed digital video products, and we use US based company products for a long time, until their quality and availability dropped off so we switch to Sony consumer monitors and at first we did not realize the colors were off. Then we got complaints since compress video sources when displayed a Sony monitor was more red in hue than what is normal. As we found out the Japanese tend to like flesh tones more red than green which most people colors is more olive. Sony factory color setting were done to what they felt was pleasing to see. Because of this we have to reset the color balances and other setting to make sure the colors were more inline with what most Americans are use to seeing.

This is still true today, Most TV and monitor colors and other setting are not set to what the average end user would consider normal for them. Image how much more complicated this get for a camera or video source which you can not easily adjust.

I grew up on Film and manual cameras once you found a film (Kodak) which worked for you and used the correct ISO like 100 or 32 and if you had to go to 400 or 1000 the rest was in your hands to control. Today's PAS cameras try and balance this all for you. The article shows the trade offs you have to make. I personally do not buy a phone for its camera, since I have a SLA which I know how to use and always get a good picture.
