  • Apple engineers dish on no macOS for iPad & why 11-inch model didn't get mini-LED

"Broderick responded simply that each platform is unique and distinct and will remain so." Or, to paraphrase "Because we said so."
This point has to be hammered home: Steve Jobs would have immediately released MacOS on the iPad and on a Mac Nano (that looks exactly like an Apple TV with an M1 processor) not because it would maximize short term profit but because it would maximize industry disruption and bring Apple a much larger share of the overall computer market over the coming decades. The PC industry has NOTHING to compete with the M series CPUs in low end small form factor PCs and tablets. They won't have anything to compete with it for YEARS. That's how you dominate. You apply your technological advantage in one market to disrupt another market. Cook is a fantastic CEO and has kept the product line full but he can't disrupt like Steve Jobs could.
People who worked alongside SJ for years and one was handpicked by him to succeed him, don’t know what he would’ve done but some random forum goer does? I’ll go with TC and his team on this one.

I don’t know about that last point either. Apple Watch, under TC’s leadership is one example. How about AirPods?
    Apple silicon is another.
All under TC’s leadership and all, especially the last one, pretty disruptive.

Apple behaves like a dictator with their tech and then they wonder, why can't they beat an OS that comes with ads built-in, and has dialog boxes from over 20 years ago.
They did beat Windows though?  There are more active iOS devices than Windows machines.

    Apple won.

Why in the hell do you think Apple is worth so much more than Microsoft?

    Apple won.
All of the big tech companies won.
Microsoft is doing quite well and last time I checked, APPL’s valuation is 2.093 trillion while MSFT is 1.847 trillion.

  • HomePod family will support Apple Music Lossless eventually

It’s a typo, I’m sure, but on the linked Apple support page, under “How to listen to lossless on your Apple TV 4K,” it says you should first “update your Apple TV 4K to tvOS 11.4.”

We’ve had lossless for years and didn’t even know it!
This has just been a spectacular own-goal from Apple from the jump. The Bluetooth lack of support for Apple Music Lossless wasn't a giant surprise, but the messaging surrounding it all has been replete with holes, wrong information, and modifications for the last five days.
An “own-goal” is a great way to put it. Some of Apple’s moves the last few months have defied logic. I mean, why even announce lossless until it was supported by the audio lineup? I don’t own a HomePod, but if I did I would be pretty pissed off right now. I’m really hoping WWDC will bring some unexpected new hardware announcements that will make sense of these seemingly erratic decisions.
Because there's a lot of non-Apple audio gear that does support lossless and hi-res lossless.  For the audiophile that is into this type of gear, why keep them waiting from enjoying this new Apple Music feature?
To avoid alienating the customers who spent $300 - $550 on first party gear? Isn’t that obvious? Those are the people Apple should be courting first, not the non-Apple audiophile.
Looking at Apple’s financials, one can clearly see that the services category is in 2nd place in terms of revenue and far ahead of the wearables and home accessory category (includes Apple Watch, AirPods,HomePods).
Reinforcing the services sector without taking anything away from the wearable/home sector, doesn’t qualify IMO as alienating.

I happen to own 2 of them (the original).
When I bought them, it’s because my existing equipment was far inferior to what Apple offered. So being in the ecosystem, I bought one and little later bought a second. Now, three years later, I’m still enjoying their output. The fact that they may support lossless audio in the near future is just a cherry on the sundae.

Funny thing is when I saw this forum on AI, I went over to YouTube and watched the interview. Good job on Brian Tong getting these guys on.
Around midway through the video, my doorbell rings and the UPS delivery man handed me my brand new M1 iPad Pro 11", 6 days before the expected delivery date.

Now back to topic. I don't think we will get MacOS on the iPad but I do expect some more loosening of the strings come WWDC time. We'll just have to wait.
As for the last question, BT asked them about what color they would've preferred?  I would've snapped up "forest green" in an instant. It's the color of the leather case I wanted for my iPhone XS but never came back in stock.
