  • Jony Ive designed the royal emblem for King Charles' coronation

    No four leaf clovers?   Hmmmm.
The Republic of Ireland is not a country within the United Kingdom.
Not sure how that ties in.  I was thinking more of the 'luck' aspect.

And yes, I know, the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK.  I don't think I said it was.
To clear this up as an Irish person.

Shamrock is a symbol associated with the island of Ireland, not just the symbol for Northern Ireland or Ireland (sometimes referred to the Republic of Ireland.)

Using a shamrock as symbol associated with the crown (as is the case here) is a hangover from when the whole island of Ireland was part of the UK but they keep using it I guess as it still refers to the northern portion of the island that remains in the UK. So fair enough.

The ‘four leaf clover luck’ is entirely a US concept. We never say clover in Ireland as we use shamrock. Shamrock is a certain type of clover - it’s always green, generally smaller, and never has four leaves. Other varieties of clover can come in a variety of colours and can often have 4 leaves.

We also don’t use clover for St. Patrick’s Day - we use shamrock and we pin some onto our lapel.

But feel to call it clover. But now you know.

I’ll get off my soapbox now…

  • Adobe buys XD rival Figma for $20 billion

This is terrible news. Surely this acquisition shouldn’t be approved?!

Figma was making massive gains in the collaborative digital design space, particularly amongst large teams/organisations - and far better than XD is that regard. Finally felt like a serious challenger to the market dominance of Adobe.

    Seriously disappointment to here this.

  • Users still not upgrading to iOS 15 as quickly as iOS 14

This is the first time since iPhone OS2 I’ve not upgraded to the latest major release immediately on day 1.

After successive buggy updates, I’m just weary now of new releases. Going to wait until 15.0.1 at least or even 15.1. Really want some of the new features but also don’t want to be dealing with some of the bugs that have come to light.

My faith in Apple software releases has been badly damaged.

  • iOS 15 picking up fewer upgraders two days after launch than iOS 14 did

It has a lot to do with the way the update now appears in System Preferences. Feels optional. Also, many people are a little nervous about fresh releases due to some of the bugs we’ve seen in past updates. I’m waiting for 15.0.1. Normally I’d be a day one upgrader.
