  • Inside -- and outside -- the 2019 Mac Pro in pictures

I’d very much like to know the manufacturer of the FPGA chip inside the Afterburner card?

Major FPGA vendors, like Altera (Intel) and Xilinx, don’t support a Mac version of their VHDL tools. So either Apple has developed their own, with a less known supplier, or developed it without a Mac.

  • Gallium Nitride chargers: What they are, and why they're great

While power electronics devices made of GaN have a distinct advantage, some alluded comments over its application to VLSI chips (like embedded processors) were oversimplified at best.
Silicon have a very particular crystalline structure that has been maintained its edge on electronic devices for about fifty years now (and many potential contenders). For those who remember, the first integrated circuit was made of germanium, then, the semiconductor of choice.
We are soon hitting a hard wall in our capability to lower the size of electronics, and even at that, silicon is our best bet, due to its small crystalline lattice constant of just 0.54 nanometers. That ought to give the industry about another ten-fold decrease in size, as technology goes forward. GaN lattice constant is 0.52 nanometers, which is smaller, but that won’t lead very far ahead.

  • Jailbreaking takes a hit as Cydia "app store" shutters

I was honestly unaware that jailbreaking was still a thing... damned app thieves!

  • Lawsuit claims Apple cribbed Apple Watch heart rate sensor tech, hints at work on glucose ...

The patent is invalid. It describes every pulse oximeter ever made. Which, by the way, are wearable devices, usually put on the tip of an index finger!

  • April Fools: get ready for the worst jokes in the tech industry

    sfolax said:
"April Fools" then continues to post links to his own previous articles. DED, you need to relax a little and stop being so defensive on everything.
How many times does this have to be said? No. One. Else. Is. Calling. Out. The. Media. The whole point of DED articles is to defend against what no one else (except the Macalope) will call out as the preposterousness that it is. The whole point of the article is to be defensive, because most normal tech media attacks Apple all the time and builds up these false narratives.
You are aware that you are responding to a Google bot, with less than a dozen posts, aren't you?
I've been reading DED articles here for more than 10 years now. If you care to look, only over the last couple of weeks, you could find anything about his rhetoric being defensive. That's the new "flawgic"—as DED himself likes to put it—from Apple haters and trolls.
