  • Siri for iOS 18 to gain massive AI upgrade via Apple's Ajax LLM

I love the Safari Reader feature in Safari, which also doubles as an ad-remover. I'm surprised I haven't noticed companies get upset about Apple's ad remover technology in this feature.

Similarly, I would love to see Apple use AI to give Safari a new "Summarizer" feature which, when turned on, would display the web page in a manner similar to Safari Reader, but would summarize the page. I would expect web-content creators to get upset that someone is abridging their content, but since they haven't been upset about the Safari Reader, maybe they won't get upset about the Safari Summarizer either.

Maybe there are no legal grounds to object to a user creating summaries of web content for personal purposes. If the summary was being performed by an online service, there might be a legal problem with that. But if it's done on device, it's probably legal. This could be a problem for Google and Microsoft, because their AI services are all done online. Google and Microsoft are charging users for "summaries" of information from third party websites.

yeah, yeah, how many units, why Cook doesnt show the numbers (money), bullshit, AVP is a FAIL, and the problem is the price, even for the enterprise,
I held off buying a Vision Pro even after doing two demos instead I invested the money into more Apple stock. By the time the second generation model  is available the recently purchased stock should have appreciated enough to cover the cost of the new model.
I agree with your assessment - but only if you bought 200 shares of Apple stock ($34,600.) If Apple's stock continues to grow at 10%/year, which it has done for the last 3 years, you should be able to sell that stock next year for a 10% profit, which is the exact price of an Apple Vision Pro.

  • Microsoft finally lets users sign into accounts with passkeys

As I understand it you still need a password in case your passwordless option fails?
That password is probably needed in the case where you trust some company to store your passkey file online. But online storage is probably not required. If you store it locally instead, you may be given a choice of using a password or not. But if you do store it locally, you still have to worry about backing it up whenever you make any change to the passkeys file. And most people don't do backups.

Someone is going to lose their passkeys backup file and then complain that they've lost access to everything. They put all their eggs in one basket, and paid the price.

  • Siri on HomePod can't tell you what time it is right now

Every day around noon I ask Siri for the date, and it hasn't been able to answer that question either, for about the last 24 hours. But I managed to reword my question in an odd way once and got the date. I can't remember the wording.

  • GM's CarPlay replacement doesn't work well, and has a long road ahead of it

I still don't believe that GM thinks it can have $25 BILLION revenue per year from services when they make only $19 BILLION profit per year from selling cars. If that ever happens, they are no longer a car company, but a service company that makes cars as a sideline.

Yes, I am comparing revenue to profit, but that's probably fair since online services have a profit margin of probably over 80% while car sales probably have a profit margin of under 20%, based on my googling.
