  • Apple rolls out improved Apple Maps for Australia

The lockdowns did reduce deaths to way below deaths from the flu in a normal season.
It isn’t as simple as that though as life must go on.
How many small business owners have lost their life savings, how many people with mental health or worse, suicides have been exacerbated by this approach? Do these deaths that have actually happened outnumber those extra that might have died from Covid with a more open approach? We will never know, and public health officials will shy away from looking at it, but best not be too quick to think we did the best out of a wide range of unpalatable choices.
I would also observe that Australia has quite a few geographical, climate and lifestyle differences that would always result in better outcomes than colder climes.  Even within Australia, it is no coincidence that locations like Melbourne with a colder climate, higher density and it must be said different ethnic demographics and cultural differences  are more vulnerable than Brisbane.
No doubt, public servants and those that work for large corporations have had a very good Covid as a result of these lockdowns, but that is not the case for everyone.
best to consider the costs as well as the benefits of any approach.
I’m not sure what info you are looking at, but much of Australia is still booming, and the lockdowns have not had a crushing effect throughout the country like you claim. Housing markets are booming everywhere, all trades are booked for a year out, many companies are having record years. Where I live, tourism has been strong for the last year, and often booked out..
The stats for suicides are not up. Stock market is rolling along. Most of all, the death toll is minimal, unlike what has happened in the US, where I lost multiple friends, all parents to young children.

  • Facebook will drop ban on news pages in Australia

News Corp owns 70% of print media in Oz, and 100% in my home state. All this is about the government paying back Murdoch for winning them the last election.

I'm just going to pretend that I didn't watch the first minute or two of the keynote and ignore any politics.
How horrible that someone considers human rights of others. This wouldn't be political to you if you started believing that people of color deserve equal rights.
It's political crap and I reject it.

Rejecting it is what’s called privilege. Those messages are for people like you.
