Forty years of the Mac, the computer for the rest of us
As I think about today's pricing of Apple Vision Pro at over $3500 I harken back to the first iMac I bought 40 years ago. With an external disk drive and B&W 72 dpi dot matrix printer in Germany I paid over $3,000 (actual - not adjusted for inflation). Then I made 1/3rd of what I make now. I have no intention of getting the Apple Vision Pro, but you have to admit, Apple fans have paid a lot over the years for a superior experience. The Vision Pro isn't priced out of what's affordable. I'm not sure what my use case would be though.

Apple files legal challenge over Europe's demand for third-party app stores
Just imagine if Circle K was forced to carry every brand candy, soda and beer. Also imagine they weren't free to mark-up their product prices as they saw fit! No one is asking the Apple Retail Stores to stock every iPhone charger, or competing smart phones? Why is the digital store different? Especially in Europe, they also won't let you sell car parts that haven't been 'certified' to not compromise their safety or environmental standards. Are they planning on setting up an international body to 'certify' apps as not harmful to the operating system or other apps?
I don't get it. -
How Steve Jobs saved Apple with the online Apple Store
In the early 2000s I had a part time gig at Circuit City (another long gone electronics retailer). I was hired by an Apple contractor to be an 'Apple Expert' on weekends at the local Circuit City. It was my first foray into retail. I didn't 'sell' anything, only providing demos and Apple Expertise. As an observer I couldn't believe how long and complex a PC sales transaction took. Someone would be tied up for hours with a salesman picking out mice, keyboards, printers, memory, processor etc and dealing with hundreds of coupons and rebates. In iMac/iBook land they'd pick up a box and walk out! This was when the first iMovie program came out and I'd amaze customers with my ability to quickly make a DVD from some short clips on my digital video camera. Crazy. Wasn't sad when they yanked the plug on the program. Never went back to retail.
