  • EU hammers Google with record $2.7 billion antitrust fine for illegal search manipulation

Or to put it another way, the EU has stomped on some blatantly anti-competitive activities and Google have to pay something for having broke the law. If they don't like the laws of a territory they can always stop trading there.

Back a few years when Google used to rank your website by relevance to the search (remember those days ?) our website was top of almost every possible relevant search. After 6 months of being bombarded by and rebuffing telephone calls from Google "suggesting" we started paying for Adwords we suddenly, overnight, fell off a cliff to the extent that even I couldn't find our entry using the same search words.

Miraculously within hours of signing up for Adwords, guess what ? Yes, we were back at the top again.

So I don't have a problem with the fine.
So i guess we can expect you not to b*tch when your ad rates go up, to pay the fine.

The European elites continue to demonstrate that they have no real understanding of free markets and competition.

  • Apple phasing out iPad mini in light of low sales, Plus-sized iPhones - report

Said it before: when apple stops making Mini, they have lost me as a customer. It is the perfect device for so many things: more portable than full-size iPad, more functional than a small screen device.  They dropped the iPod Classic almost as soon as they perfected it; and it appears they are possibly doing the same thing here.  Those the the two devices that made me an Apple customer.

  • Samsung's 'Galaxy S8+' may challenge Apple with 6.2-inch screen & iris scanner

There certainly niche market for phones larger than 6" but for most you want something you can mange using daily without letting it fall on ground often. If I ever need very large phone than will buy ipad mini with phone capability built-in. In my opinion, sweet spot phone 5.1-5.2" usable screen with little top/bottom area and thin side bezels and iPhone 8/X might be the one.
My ipad mini is enabled for calls via talkatone, Skype and MagicJack apps. It is the best phone i have ever had since i am often accessing documents while on calls, and the big acreen makes it highly functional to call up the calendar, or email, or web based documents that are part of the conversation.

I think they mean the fact you have to hand over your personal info to them. Using Google Drive over iCloud is the most absurd.

google drive at least does not destroy my iTunes collection, as has been a regular issue for thousands of iCloud users.  In fact, Google Music automatically copies and stores all my iTunes purchases up in the cloud so i can play music from the Web easily (not allowed to have iTunes on work computer).  The music app interface is also more functional as well than Apple Music.  I understand your preference for Apple in general, but the fact is both companies offer a lot and Google products generally work well in iOS. I still love my Apple hardware, but the company is not the same with Steve gone, for sure.  Google just does some things better.
