  • Apple's iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro rely on Intel LTE modems

A Qualcomm modem won't be able to overcome mediocre antenna performance if Apple doesn't get that part right with future phones.

Or has everyone forgotten about the iPhone 4, where a user's grip had adverse effects and elicited Jobs' infamous quote?

It's clear that a good many are too young, and have never had to wrestle with a TV antenna to get a clear picture.

With RF systems, the tuner isn't the only part of the equation.

  • Early test suggests iPhone 11 Pro has 13% faster 4G LTE versus iPhone XS

As many an XS owner will attest, its cell radio system wasn't the best.

Even after many firmware updates, simultaneous comparisons with other phones in the same location showed that it was either slower, didn't have the same reception, or both..

Most have put that down to the Intel modem, especially with the ongoing Qualcomm quarrel, but overlook that the switch to a MIMO antenna array probably wasn't completely successful.  The Intel modem was fine when it was supplied with a good signal, or under lab tests like those performed by PC World, but could struggle under other conditions.

The result of a not-quite-as-polished Intel modem, and mediocre antenna performance lead to some real world frustration for some users.

  • South Korean AirPods ad shows wide variety of case designs

The cases shown seem to be quite child like and may even appeal to some adolescents. I'm not so sure about the adult market though...
"Cuteness" is a big part of Asian culture, and its appeal spans all ages. The Japanese call it "Kawaii." Not sure if there's a Korean term for it.

  • Apple introduces smart battery optimization in iOS 13 to combat battery aging

Generally speaking, lithium batteries benefit from being kept, as well as stored, with a partial state of charge. Keeping them fully charged, or close to fully drained impacts their durability. If one desires to preserve the maximum life of the batteries in their devices, avoid the habit of leaving them connected to the charger at 100%, or dead for prolonged periods if they're not going to be in regular use. Practical considerations take priority for most users, who aren't going to sacrifice useful capacity by not topping off, or squeezing every bit out, but there is a trade off. It's not so much the spurious effects of current approaching full charge as the story implies; a good quality charging circuit will accurately taper and cut off the charging current as the battery reaches 100% at the end of the CC/CV cycle. Good to see Apple acknowledge that in its charging strategies.

  • B&H Payboo Card to refund sales tax on all orders [u]

Basically, it reads like B&H is going to pay for sales tax on all purchases made with their credit card, and recoup those costs from the interest it collects from people who don't immediately pay it off in full.  Sounds like a decent bet to me; B&H gets to market it as a tax-free deal, and collects interest itself instead of seeing it go to other banks.

But, those tempted should keep in mind it is establishment of another line of credit, and a hard pull.  Those who have plans to obtain other large loans (like a mortgage) within a close period of time, or have a questionable credit history might wish to give it a second thought.  Saving a couple hundred bucks is tempting, but that savings can quite quickly evaporate through the interest charged on the card, or not qualifying for a better mortgage rate longer term because one's credit score is affected.  There are also a lot of states ineligible according to the fine print.
