  • 'Apple Watch Series 3' rumored to boast all-new form factor [u]

Daily charging makes this product something I'd never want. Certainly don't need it with an iPhone in my pocket.
I've worn a watch on my wrist for over 35 years. I've never worn one to bed. Placing my Apple Watch on the charger overnight isn't really a problem for me. In fact when you place it on your night stand on its side it becomes a bedside clock with an alarm. Using a Bluetooth speaker it can even be a beside music player. If I haven't had my charger available I often get about 2 days because I take it off at night. When you don't wear it the Apple Watch uses less battery just as the iPhone uses less battery when it's laying on the desk or just in your pocket. (especially with iOS 11)

Here's a good reason for owning and wearing an Apple Watch; I take blood thinners for a hereditary condition. Last week I started to severely bleed internally and was home by myself. I used the Apple Watch's emergency call feature since I had left my iPhone in another room on my desk. My watch call 911 and I was able to communicate with an operator and the paramedics were there in less than 10 minutes. After I hung up with 911 my Watch automatically called my wife's iPhone while she was at work and I told her what was happening and meet me at the hospital. (the paramedics pounded on me, pinched me, slapped me to keep me awake) The paramedics told me I was close to going into shock from loss of blood. My wife wouldn't have been home for another 6 hours. Without my Apple Watch it's possible that I could have passed out on the bathroom floor and maybe died.

Also those who don't pay attention to Apple Heath on their iPhone, get familiar with it! I had my wife come home and pick up my iPhone from home before heading to the ER. Why? My clinic allows me to download my health record in XML and I had recently downloaded it to my iPhone as shown in an AI article from July 17,17. I was able to provide the information to the ER personnel to help them with my care.

  • Technology in Apple's first iPhone made it the best communications tool for a family in cr...

I am not second guessing you, but if you are uncomfortable with your health or a loved ones go to the hospital or Doctor's office immediately. This applies universally. I am still kicking myself for not forcing a neighbor to go to the hospital after noticing substantial changes in his walking and breathing. As it turns out my uneasy feeling was right: he had experienced two heart attacks in the prior week (according to the doctor). I don't know how they can tell two, but it does not matter as he had definitely had one. Luckily he is still alive, but had I pushed harder on him and his wife (he is incredibly stubborn) maybe he would not have substantially less capacity of his hear to pump blood. His quality of life has been diminished and his life expectancy shortened.

You completely missed the point of this article.
I'm glad you took an interest in your neighbor and took action.

That is a wonderful touching story.

My first iPhone was the iPhone 3G. I have always been a technology guy and waited for 3G support. I brought it home and tried to show my wife all of the things that it could do. Texting with a full on-screen keyboard! Always on internet access! etc., etc. Her first words were "why would anyone need to text when they can just call the other person?". After buying her and iPhone 4 she started to change her mind. Now she texts me from two rooms away in the same house! We share our calendars and don't even get me started on how she's hooked on Facebook and Twitter!

  • Apple's Siri home speaker now in manufacturing, may not ship until later in 2017

Many here forget that Apple works in an "eco-system" mentality. a Siri speaker is a natural add on to this for those that are not currently Apple customers and even better for current customers. Siri is integrated in all products now, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, 4th gen Apple TV, and most recently Mac/OS. It,s not a coincidence that Mac/OS was added. I think Siri is about to go through a major update that will enhance it's capabilities significantly.

Those that poo-poo the current version of Siri just haven't used it and it seems like you want it to be bad. Here's what I do with it on a daily basis:
    - ask for fastest route to destinations to appointments. While enroute if a faster route becomes available Siri makes a suggestion. If an accident occurs in my route while driving she will alert me. An entrance ramp to the freeway was closed for construction and Siri knew that so she never routed me that way. She knew when it reopened and routed me there.
    - while driving I ask Siri to make calls on speaker, read new texts, listen to new voicemail messages,
    - I send texts with incredible accuracy. Much faster than typing.
    - did you know that you can tell Siri to give contacts nicknames? Hey Siri, Jane Doe work is my wife making money. From then on, Hey Siri, call my wife making money will call my wife's work phone number.
    - hey Siri, who's pitching for the Twins tonight? I get a voice response of both team's pitchers Google assistant just shows my the google search results.
    - I sometimes make dinner reservations at our favorite restaurants.
    - a lot of queries she will give me the result and tell me that she found an article on Wikipedia and ask me if I would like her to READ it to me.
    - and yes Siri does do some sequential queries

  • Infamous patent troll Soverain Software targets Apple products and services in new lawsuit...

When these gnats feel they need to file their cases in eastern Texas they know it's shaky. When will the judges and juries wake up and realize that these trolls only file there because they don't really have a case and rely on whatever reason these people provide them winning verdicts. I'm thinking that it might be tech naivete because I hesitate to believe these people could be just plain stupid. Perhaps some training on technology and the US patent system would be helpful.

Forcing patent trolls into bankruptcy and tech companies forming a patent consortium to acquire their bogus patents would be helpful. They could a) nullify the invalid ones, and b) make the others open and available to others since most are useless anyway. That would prevent other trolls from acquiring them and filing time wasting, resources wasting law suites. RPX (Rockstar) was a good start but they acquire Nortel's patents for a profit. Time for everyone to stop measuring the length of their dicks and work together.
