  • Apple's iPhone Fold is creeping closer - what the rumor mill says is coming

I’m interested to see how they solve two problems.
The first and most obvious, is the crease problem. But for me, the more interesting second problem is this:
How do you design the hinge so that it will not pinch your fingers if you “hold it wrong”, and how do you keep sand and grit out of the mechanism to ensure a flat mating of the two halves.
    I guess that’s three problems.

  • Apple faces fresh legal attack over its carbon neutral Apple Watch claim [u]

Nothing that is manufactured is carbon neutral. The whole carbon credit shell game is a grifting scam.

Quantum computers will eventually break all encryption anyway. It’s just a matter of time. But screw the UK government for hastening the process.
Don’t know everything about this, but it sounds like Apple is already ahead of this with provably quantum proof encryption - https://security.apple.com/blog/imessage-pq3/

Not sure if this applies to ADP though or just iMessage, it sounds like just iMessage for right now.

But at any rate, although quantum computers definitely may weaken encryption, I am not sure it will end up being the immediate death thereof barring some weaknesses in the algorithms themselves.
Thanks for digging that up. I suppose there will be a back and forth between various offensive and defensive schemes just as there is today. Computers fighting computers. Strange world.

  • visionOS 2.4 beta brings several long-awaited features to Apple Vision Pro

I need to try out the Vision Pro.  I have always assumed that requiring reading glasses would make it a PITA; I know they offer lenses, but I am just dubious about how well that would work.  I have 20/20 over two feet and need correction for less than two feet; even 1.5 magnifiers work for me. I don't even need a prescription. Has anyone in a similar position tried the VP?
I have the same problem. However, I can look through a pair of binoculars and focus them just fine. I don’t know a lot about the science of optics, but I wonder if the displays could be blurred or distorted in such a way as to correct for people who need readers.

What I see as the primary reason for a guest mode is showing another person what the Vision Pro is all about.  Restricting apps and all that jazz is a relatively minor part of that, what the Vision Pro could really do with is a Demo Mode, where it walks a user through a few impressive functions, the same sort of stuff that is scripted in the Apple Store in-store demos.
Having a second set of vision Pro to hand to a customer and being in the same space for would be great.
    That’s a brilliant idea.
