  • Scuttled 'Apple Doctor' would have connected consumers with healthcare

I’ll stick with my local doctor, thanks.

  • Microsoft Windows 10X reportedly paused to focus on Windows 10 enhancements

Using Big Sur (or any version of macOS) it’s consistent top to bottom in its interface, wherever you go.

On Windows 10 it looks like one thing, then you go somewhere else, Windows 10, then click on a button and look, Windows Vista aesthetic and then click a few more and look, suddenly you’re looking at XP. It’s a cruddy mishmash. Not surprised that they don’t want to attempt untangling it.
Microsoft has always sucked at UI design. Always.

  • Renesas chip foundry fire could harm Apple's supply chain

What’s amazing is the decline of chip fab capabilities in the United States. IBM used to be a big player running their own foundries. They’ve basically exited that business. Intel is falling behind and can’t compete with TSMC. AMD has lost ground. US auto manufacturers have had to slow production lines due to chip availability issues. The US really needs to find ways to improve its abilities to create wafers and chips. Chip manufacturing capabilities are no where on the Biden agenda. That has to change.
Biden has  got to go .. that will solve much bigger problems..
Biden inherited the problems created by Trump. Biden is in office only two months.
US chipmaking has been on the decline for decades. US companies have been outsourcing labor for years, so you really can't blame Trump for that, fashionable as it is.

In other words it doesn’t work yet natively.  Premature announcement makes me not trust this company in the least
You mean like Apple saying that the switch would require minimal work on the part of developers and many could get it done in, I think Cook said, a day? Even with an apparent collaboration between the two companies it appears to be a major undertaking. If you use photoshop in any serious way you are still using the released production version and not a beta version released for companies that want to at least start testing the required change in workflow. Most don’t just wake up in the morning and randomly start installing beta software for production use! You should trust companies that make this possible more, not less!
It does require minimal work if you use modern APIs and write modern code. If you of course use APIs from the original mac os and have a lot of code that was originally written for the 68k, it may look differently :) (only slightly exaggerating). Ever noticed that it's ALWAYS is Adboe that take forever with everything they do?
Avid is right up there with ProTools. Still no Intel Big Sur version, never mind M1. Even Catalina version says "support for some file types, plug-ins, and functionality are not yet available due to the 64-bit transition."
Yeah a lot of the people on the Logic forum I read are staying with Catalina for now because their favorite plug-ins are still 32-bit, and Big Sur just isn’t compelling enough for them to upgrade.

  • EU winding down Apple Music antitrust investigation, charges expected

    1. Apple builds a platform (at great expense).
    2. Apple opens up its platform to allow 3rd party content.
    3. Third party joins the platform by agreeing to the terms & conditions defined by the platform owner, i.e., Apple.
    4. Third party content provider decides they no longer like being treated as a guest in the owner's home.
    5. Third party content provider runs crying to their daddy, the EU protectionism squad.
    6. Daddy comes over, sues the platform owner, and beats them up with the protectionism stick of justice.

Maybe I'm living in a warped reality, but this is like inviting a guest into your home and then having them sue you because you didn't allow them to sleep in your bed, use your bathroom, soil your towels, play with your dog, drink your booze, or drive your car. The court then intervenes and forces you to grant your "first party" or "owner" privileges to the third party.

There used to be a time when ownership had its privileges. Apparently, or at least within the scope of EU protectionist policies, ownership means nothing. The EU thinks they own it all and the creators, architects, builders, and investors in platforms that cost huge sums of time, money, and resources are there merely to serve the state and its hapless minions who cannot create anything by themselves.

This is nothing more than a culture of pathetic losers.
