  • Echoes of launches past: Tim Cook likens Apple Vision Pro to iPhone launch

Millions of people already had cell phones when iPhone launched. Barely anyone has any sort of VR gear. Other than starting with zero market share, they are really not similar at all. I did see the first ad for AVP yesterday though, nicely done.

  • Apple won't license Masimo's patents despite Apple Watch import ban

Will Apple reduce the price to reflect the missing tech? Not likely.

  • Is Apple's App Store a monopoly or a solution?

I can see both sides of the argument. On Macs, a great deal of useful and even vital (for certain professions) software is not available on the App Store. Yet, Apple allows the user to circumvent the gatekeeper of MacOS and install just about anything they want. If you install a faulty program or a piece of malware, that’s on you. In iOS, Apple does not allow that.
Apple’s reasoning for this is sound. They don’t want millions of iPhones infected with malware, thus destroying the brand. The iPhone created a software marketplace that dwarfs that of the Mac, so it’s no wonder why there is more consternation regarding iOS.
I understand though, why people want to install software that’s not on the store, and I see why some developers don’t want to pay a fee to access the user base.
Time will tell how this is resolved.

Charge a license fee to use the technology or like MC and Visa charge a per transaction fee + percentage.
MC and Visa only charge a fee when they're providing a service don't they? What service would Apple be providing in this instance to warrant charging a fee / percentage?

Building, maintaining, and selling the actual device this is used on?
Or was that free for Apple to make this platform available?
A service Apple provided to the banks was selling the iPhone to the customer?

That's a very weird way of looking at the world.
The phone is a mobile ATM and bank management device. It’s certainly a service to the banks. I can make direct check deposits with my phone eliminating reliance on a bank teller, for example.

  • Apple offers Austin relocation to 121 San Diego employees in office closure

GROSS what a total downgrade and what a cheap relocation offer. Anyone who does that is going to suffer on so many levels. From the out-of-pocket expense of relocating to Texas (WHO EATS PICKLES AT THE MOVIES??) to the future loss of income for homeowners. Homes in CA especially in SD are going to appreciate in value more than TX. Then there's the general lack of progressive laws and thinking. Oh I forgot that you're also moving from a coastal area with the highest happiness quotient in the USA to inland the capital of a state that is anti-LGBTQ, anti-woman's rights, pro-gun, and pro-racist.

Instead of Apple doubling down on TX, they should be looking to eliminate their corporate presence there in protest over the backward laws of the state. Just goes to show greed motivates all.
Amen. Progressive companies should stop propping up the economy of regressive States.
California is in a financial mess, with a 68 billion dollar budget deficit. Progressive policies have destroyed that state, probably forever.
