  • Folding iPhone will probably cost more than the Mac Studio

Seems like it'll be "cool", but entirely unnecessary. Are the non-Apple foldable phones taking the market by storm? Doesn't seem like it. If Apple comes out with this foldable phone "late to the game", it certainly won't be a mid level offering, it'll be only at the top end, with the price making some sense, at least in Apple's pricing world.

  • Apple may be considering a restart of advertising on X

I've been seeing this all over for many years now:
    1. Public is not liking thing B.
    2. Company A wants to not tarnish its brand, so it cuts it's relation to thing B
    3. The media cycle moves on, public discussion moves to other things
    4. Company A quietly reestablishes relationship with thing B for money reasons, figuring that brand issues are less likely now that public attention is elsewhere.

I for one would like if Apple would continue to have no relationship with X at all going forward, whether it be advertising or anything else. I would love to see X starved of revenue and fall in value, and eventually become irrelevant as far as public discourse. The only way it'll happen is people vote by cutting their usage of X. That's fair market action, people are allowed to not use your goods/services for any reason they want, including things that have nothing to do with the good/service itself or it's price, you either compete in that arena that includes public sentiment, or you don't.

I'm just saying that's how it so often seems to go with companies' responses to public outcry over some non-monetary event, whether a one-time event or a change spread out over time. The world is just too complicated for people to hold their attention on a million things at once.

  • Generation gaps: How much faster Apple Silicon gets with each release

I'm not expert on what relies on CPU vs GPU, but my creative work is all about (as far as computing power) simultaneous real-time audio DSP and mannnny simultaneous audio streams running at once (basically recording studio in a box type stuff) over thunderbolt, which as far as I can tell comparing some audio-specific benchmarks, don't really use the GPU at all since the scores look exactly the same for the same # of CPU cores and varying #s of GPU cores.

I wanted to get a separate audio-work-only desktop computer to keep stripped down for only the audio work which I currently do with my all-purpose M2 Max MBP (which works great) and I was considering the new M4 Pro Mac Mini since it appears to benchmark higher than my M2 Max on non-graphic stuff, and is way cheaper than the M2 Mac Studio in various flavors, but I think I'm going to wait and see if they come out with a M4 Max (or Ultra) Mac Studio next year sometime, since I'm not in a hurry and want to mega-future-proof the purchase by going big. An M4 Max or M4 Ultra Mac Studio with 64 or 96 GB of RAM is just about where I want to be I think.

  • Hands on: Apple's USB-C accessories leave us wanting more

To be fair, they left all the prices the same as the previous otherwise-identical lightning devices, as they did with the AirPods Max when they switched it to USB-C, so... what's the problem? It's just a tiiiiiiny update as far as consumer interest and relevance, not really worth having an actual "review" about. Apple didn't put out any marketing material that exaggerates any changes here, so while maybe some were disappointed with the lack of other changes, you can't say Apple promised something and then didn't deliver. No one who already has the lightning version of any of these is going to upgrade specifically get USB-C (if they have any sense), and lightning cables are going to be around from Apple or third party vendors until the end of the time itself, so nobody's getting screwed here.

For the iPhone 12 pro MagSafe charger does it need a 18w or 20w power brick???
I'd be interested to know as well, since I already have a 18W usb-c brick.
