  • Informal testing finds Apple Maps arrival times are 'intentionally conservative' to provid...

Also, I use Siri/Maps to tell me how long it will take me to get to work and home each day. Don't need directions, I know how to go. Just the info.
It clearly estimates the times using the posted speed limits. So more often than not, I arrive ahead of the estimate.

  • Swype add-on keyboard discontinued, pulled from iOS App Store

I was anxious to try the Microsoft keyboard with the keyboard on an arc that allowed one-handed operation. I downloaded it and before I used it, I learned that every keystroke was going back to MS. WTF is that?! I deleted it without trying it. Happy with Apple's solution on the occasions I need it.

  • Qualcomm unveils 2-gigabit LTE modem amid rumors Apple's iPhone going Intel-only

The first devices with the chip should launch towards the end of 2018, which would be in time for Apple's next iPhones -- including a 6.1-inch LCD model, and two OLED products sized at 5.8 and 6.5 inches.

No. If the chip launched at the end of 2018, the chips would only be available for the 2019 phones, not the "next iPhones".

  • Apple takes media on tour of audio lab in run-up to HomePod launch

    zoetmb said:
I doubt that the third chamber, which they claim is resting on 28 tons of concrete and with walls weighing another 27 tons is in any regular Apple office facility.   Anechoic chambers have their purposes, but since consumer devices must operate in different and frequently noisy consumer environments, I'm not sure how practical it all is.   But if they're giving a lot of audio engineers high-wage employment (I'm an ex-recording engineer), I'm all for it.

And 1 Infinite Loop isn't going away.  My understanding is that it's Apple's leased facilities around Cupertino that will be phased out.
Wrong. Anechoic chambers are an essential development tool to help engineers determine how products perform in the real world. If you can't measure how the product performs, you can't hope to manipulate it's performance in the real world.

  • Reminder: HomePod can replace an Apple TV or iPad as a HomeKit hub

The third generation Apple TV can be used as a HomeKit hub, but it won't be able to be used to remotely access HomeKit cameras, change user permissions, or create automations from the device.

I have not yet been able to set up an ATV3 as a hub. Does not show up in the Home App and nothing in the ATV3 iCloud setting mentions Home as the web site says it should. Everything is updated to latest rev. 2-factor authentication is active.

Anybody help solving this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
