Apple's CarPlay gains quick-access task switcher with iOS 10.3
ihatescreennames said:AppleInsider said:However, considering CarPlay is intended to keep eyes off of the road, Apple has instituted some restrictions on how the task switcher works.
I haven't updated my phone yet but I'm looking forward to the recent apps side dock. I love having the Maps icon there (though in my experience it isn't permanent, only when navigation is in use). I guess it will be handy showing call time though I'm not sure how much that will matter to me.
My wish for CarPlay is that it would take less time to start up, but that my have something to do with the system in the car. And for us it's a very inconsistent start-up time. Sometimes it will take close to a minute for CarPlay to be ready to go and other times only about 10 seconds. If it was consistently 10 seconds (or less!) I'd be happy.
1. Connect it to the car after the car's system has been fully booted up and running, say a few minutes just to be sure. Time CarPlay start up.
(edit) Make sure the car is completely powered down, up to 30 minutes in some vehicles.
2. Connect the iPhone before starting the car. Time CarPlay startup.
You may be waiting for the car's electronics to fully boot up.

McDonald's tests mobile ordering from iOS app ahead of global rollout
Metriacanthosaurus said:Something is fishy about this. Location tracking is 100% not necessary in this context. Taco Bell has already mastered this with no location tracking. It is already Fast Food. It takes literally 2 minutes to prepare ones meal. No one needs a "head start" based on location tracking.
At Taco Bell, you place your order with the App, and when you arrive at the Drive Thru, you're just bypassing the "talking-to-the-moron-thru-the-speaker" except to let them know you've arrived. They immediately begin making your meal and its ready as soon as you pull up to the next window. No more advance notice than that is needed.bdkennedy said:Welcome to 2010. Review: eero Wi-Fi is a solid option for Apple's outgoing AirPort
Recently installed a Netgear Orbi with one additional satellite. So far it is awesome. I now get every Mbps that I'm paying for (100 Mbps) throughout my entire house. Easy to set up. Had the whole thing set up in 15 minutes. That includes waiting for the modem to reboot and changing the stock network name. Hopefully, it will stay reliable and not need to be rebooted every other day. Fingers crossed, but it's great now.
