  • Apple Music adds animated album covers in iOS 14.3, macOS 11.1

Now that they’ve added this new feature maybe they can get back to finding a way to ensure that static album artwork shows up correctly.
You said it. There are so many lingering issues with Apple Music that make it a stomach churning chore instead of a music lover’s feast.

  • Apple discontinues Music Memos, prompts users to migrate to Voice Memos

Wow. Very disappointed in these commenters so far.

I had no idea this was even an Apple made app. I’m super bummed they’re pulling this app. It’s awesome. No frills interface with an automatic drum beat and/or bass you could toggle in and out easily. It figured out what chord you were playing and annotated it down like tabs/sheet music automatically. You can easily crop clips and most impressively share them via the share sheet super easily. It’s maybe not for everyone because everyone isn’t a musician, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a cool app. I use this all the time.
Same. It’s a great app for sketching out the bones of a track or idea. This completely blows. Another shortsighted move by Apple which takes away another artist’s tool which supports the creative end of the music production process... and if they’re still going to be in the music sales game, they benefit by offering more smart tools for artists.

  • Disney+ hits 86.8M paying users, hikes monthly subscription fee

Ahhh how i wish Apple had pulled the trigger and bought Disney few years back,..
I still find the idea of Apple hiring Bob Iger to run Apple TV+ an intriguing one.

  • Bill introduced to strip Section 230 protections from the internet

The practical effect will be that a site like this AppleInsider Forum can longer exist.

Cheerleaders of the bill need to consider unanticipated consequences. Comment forums will largely disappear from most fan sites, and the ones that remain will heavily moderate (censor). It's rare that any of them earn enough profit to weather just one lawsuit over content posted by a user.
If this, or similar 230 "reform" bills are passed, the forums here will absolutely be shut down.
That might be this site’s reaction, but all it means is a site must choose to act as a nonpartisan forum or act as a publisher exercising editorial control.

230 did not exist until relatively recently, so it would just go back to the way it was before.

    This needs to happen.
You probably need to talk to some attorneys about this, like we have. What you're implying here is not all it means.

    230 has existed since 1989. 31 years.
Not trying to be glib, but get better lawyers. If users who choose to post can “sign off” on the site’s current terms of use agreement, they can certainly sign off on another form releasing the site from liability. Private contracts are binding, as long as they don’t violate the laws.

The forum and the breaking news are the only reasons I continue to come here. With no forum, I would have to weigh my options.

  • FTC, 46 states file antitrust suit against Facebook, seek Instagram & WhatsApp break-up

Exactly how is it anticompetitive? Anyone can have a social media website. Are they actually blocking competitors?

This is just part of why anti-monopoly laws are ridiculous and they should all be stricken. Monopolies happen WHEN THERE ARE REGULATIONS which have the net effect of suppressing competition. Free markets don’t create monopolies!
