  • US appeals court upholds gag orders on national security letters to firms like Apple

Going by their policy history, and business & cultural climate, I'd rather have California rule that Virginia/DC rule.
It is not so much the location of the capital that matters. It is the elected officials in the government who make the policies and they are from all around the country. California does have the largest population and therefore they already make up the largest contingent among the 435 member US house of representatives.

    California: 53
    Texas: 36
    New York: 27
    Florida: 27

It is interesting to note that the population is determined by the Census, including illegal aliens. If you only counted legal residents, California would lose 6 representatives. But even then it would still have more representation than any other state. New York, Texas and Florida would each lose 1 representative and many states in the upper midwest and south would gain 1 representative.

  • Review: Amazon Echo Show is 'good enough'

Siri can probably answer a large range of questions and possibly some more correct answers for time-based events, like sporting events.
Siri is generally pretty good with sports scores but I discovered over the weekend that she knows nothing about tennis.

"What is the score in the Venus Williams match?"

Siri: No clue at what I'm even talking about.

"What is the score in the Federer match?"

    Siri: Same cluelessness.

Google app on iPhone: Instantaneous with perfect accuracy in both cases.

  • Apple turns to contracted freelancers to help boost accuracy of Apple Maps data

I still find Apple maps as well as Siri disappointingly way behind the google offerings. While I have all Apple gear now I find this very upsetting. While on a resent road trip I used not only the gps but google maps on my iPhone at the same time to find my way. I guess if your just interstate trolling along Apple maps would be ok but a 2 week trip strictly off interstates, that is what was needed.
There is a way to avoid highways and toll roads.

Open the Settings app on iPhone.
    Tap Maps.
    Tap Driving & Navigation.
    Toggle on avoid highways.

  • Apple HR head Denise Young Smith takes up new role as VP for 'Inclusion and Diversity'

These "Inclusion and Diversity" positions are about the imposition of an ideology (and virtue signalling). Efforts of this sort are intellectually flaccid bromides intended to placate Progressives.
You should perhaps go to the Apple Diversity page and read what they actually say instead of overlaying your bigotry on top a very well thought out policy.

    https://www.apple.com/diversity/

You do realize Apple has retail stores in more than 20 countries around the globe. I'm pretty sure most of the employees who work in the Chinese stores are Chinese. Likewise the Italian store probably mostly Italians. Same with Japan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Brazil and Turkey, etc. It is not just about tech jobs either. It is the entire company philosophy of openness and inclusion. People who claim that diversity excludes acceptable candidates for sake of some theoretical ethnicity/gender quota don't have a clue about the potential employee pool that a company the size of Apple has available to them. They are not going to hire anyone who is not qualified. It is not a one to one racial equation. They just don't want to exclude anyone based on race or gender.

  • Rumor: Tim Cook personally testing new glucose blood sugar monitor for Apple Watch

    [...]
"I've been wearing a continuous glucose monitor for a few weeks," Cook said without mentioning connectivity to the Apple Watch. "I just took it off before coming on this trip."
    [...]
The rumor is the latest in a line of reports claiming that the next-generation Apple Watch, expected to arrive this fall, could include support for glucose monitoring in some fashion.
    [...]
Apple's embrace of glucose technology is expected to be non-invasive, measuring through the skin with advanced sensors. By potentially selling it as a separate band, Apple could potentially receive Food and Drug Administration approval for the accessory without the need to have the same certification for the Apple Watch hardware itself.
    1. I doubt it will be part of the Watch or a band, otherwise why would he say he took it off?
    2. It is virtually impossible to be part of the Watch because the only way to read glucose non-invasively is to examine the blood on a capillary level and that requires a sensor on one side and transmitter on the other. They have to be in very close proximity, not clear across the width of your arm. You are trying to read the blood inside a capillary not the blood in the skin which would result in a false reading.
    3. I expect it is a separate BT earpiece which positions the two sides of the detector on either side of the earlobe and communicates with the Watch, which is why he took it off. He is not going to reveal an unannounced product.
