  • Apple buys Intel modem business in $1B deal

Intels CPU chips are also slowly falling behind. Which makes me wonder if Apple is ready to acquire that business too.
    LOL what are you smoking?

    Common sense?
How is it common sense that Apple would buy out Intel's CPU division, which is like 60% revenue of a company with a $233B market cap? Especially when all signs have been pointing to their own silicon development?
They don’t need to buy the whole CPU division, they may just license some x86 if Intel somewhat continuously fails to deliver. That last deal shows their business alliance goes well beyond pop-culture memes and urban legends.

One area we saw go down was the performance of the SSD. It is now slightly slower than last year, but just as with the processor limitations, most daily users won't pay it much attention.

Still faster SSD than most comparable WinTel machines though. That should be acknowledged.
I still think it should be sub $1000 and have min 256GB though to really nail comparisons. Once those two complaints are addressed of course we can move on to RAM size ߘ᦬t;br>

Edit: I will add that I am torn between the new MBA and new MBP for Christmas for my daughters who currently have 2015 MBAs.  If only one of them had a USB-A port it would be a no brainer. I know USB-C is the future, but in the real world their friends, teachers and even TVs all have USB-A memory sticks.
New MBA 256. And please add USB-A adapter as a bonus. Friends no longer exchange usb memory sticks, that was 10 yrs ago. They exchange WhatsApp, Air Drop, iMessage, Dropbox sharing, mail etc..

I’ll never understand why people don’t auto hide the Dock, especially on these smaller screens. It’s suchna waste of space.
Tucking it to the left may be better than auto hiding.

    I bet this is good.

I just don't understand why YET.

All will be known soon fellas!!
Why? Because Apple won’t ditch Intel, for example to switch to ARM  >:) (Re: Why Apple's Macs can now ditch Intel x86 and shift to ARM)

"We've worked with Intel for many years and know this team shares Apple's passion for designing technologies that deliver the world's best experiences for our users," said Johny Srouji, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Technologies.

Intels modem business was failing and far behind. This is why I said I don't understand YET.

Apple never buys a dying business they don't think they can innovate. Remember Primesense? They were dead and nobody wanted anything to do with them. Heck Xbox sales were tanking because Microsoft was bundling Kinect with their Xbox! So Microsoft dropped the bundle to save sales lol. Yet Apple bought them....

Intels CPU chips are also slowly falling behind. Which makes me wonder if Apple is ready to acquire that business too.
    Why not?

    The keyword here is... patent.

It’s difficult to keep engineers from acquisitions. Many may stay, and many may leave.
I think the reason to keep engineers is more preventing them from losing a job than keeping them as assets. Under the job guarantee Apple offers they may choose whatever carrier path they want.
