  • The best video converter apps for Mac

Since you included FFMPEG among "apps", the built-in Apple command-line tool "avconvert" too is worth mentioning. Type "avconvert --help" or better "man avconvert" in Terminal to see its options.

Very fair, they developed an audience and a platform people trust, they deserve a cut.

Every online store gets a cut from sales.

It's already bizarre that they can't control their own store.
Nobody controls their own store. Before you can even open one there are huge amounts of rules and regulations to deal with.

On the face of it, this comment by Apple does not appear to be in the spirit of the rule but we'll have to see how it plays out.

At the end of the day all of this is basically part of a bigger puzzle and no one knows what it's going to look like yet.
Looks like plenty of stores control their stores. I don’t know of any store that allows vendors to use a store’s space for free. Apple provides the store, provides access to it by developers and they have to be paid just like any other store.
    Irrelevant.

Your control is limited to what regulations allow for. You don't have a free ride to do whatever you want.

It is to be seen just how much control Apple can exercise without falling foul to regulations.
That was so under Franco's regime.

In the modern world, regulations do not "allow", they just "disallow" some limited, countable cases.

  • Even billion dollar brands start with free fonts to make their logos

That has nothing to do with free fonts. They've chosen those fonts because of their popularity and their suitability for reproduction on different media, sizes and shapes. And also most popular fonts have free counterparts, which use different names than trademarked ones. Those different names may help in distinguishing free fonts from "pirated" ones. The emotional title of the article is misleading in implying that one can get free "Helvetica" or free "Futura", which is not the case.

  • Reddit breaks down the math on how the new MacBook Pro saves them money

A real-world example of 45 minutes waiting for builds cut in half, translated to a 3 month payback on buying a new M1 laptop.  That’s powerful validation of the SoC and system engineering that went into this machine.
Well, let's just say that if their engineers are spending 45 minutes per day, just waiting far a compilation to finish, doing nothing else, they are doing it wrong.

Even if they cut that in half.
Of course they could do the laundry or cook but those 45 minutes is the total of so small chunks that they can't even initiate their home jobs ! Doomed machines those M1 Max Macs are, they don't even leave you a reasonable laundry time !

  • Flat-edged Apple Watch design revealed in new filing

This is not the first. A patent drawing is always cartoonish, everything is flat or square.
