  • Editorial: Apple is neither doomed nor saved now that Jony Ive has moved on

    McJobs said:
Jonathan is not walking away. He was pushed. The runway is now clear for Scott Forstall return.
Why would Forstall return? Steve Jobs has returned because he was an entrepreneur, we can’t charge Forstall with such a burden. I don’t deny his talent and contribution but I don’t see Apple in such a critical position as to issue calls to old comrades.

  • Apple design chief Jony Ive to depart later this year, create new studio with Apple as cli...

All the product designs are exhausted in computing and mobile markets. The next design Ive would create would not be much different from the previous one. Designing a unibody 16 inch MacBook Pro is a trivial and repetitive task, that wouldn’t require Ive’s artistic and creative talents too much (or, this is how Ive might have felt). Apple’s next breakthrough product will certainly carry Ive’s signature, as I understand from his future plans.

Apple is NOT abandoning x86 architecture for Mac! More likely you will see iPad get faster with more Mac-like features. The the upcoming versions, of iPadOS and MacOS are very similar and are only likely to become more so over time. That's why Apple is continuing to invest in it's own ARM designs.
This is what I also think will happen.  macOS / x86 will stick around for "legacy" workflows & iPadOS / ARM for "modern" workflows
IPadOS does nothing to solve the needs many pros have.  In fact it glosses over many requests.  I have an open mind and hope the shipping iPad OS evolves quickly over time but Apples track record here is pretty bad.  It will be very interesting to see what iPadOS looks like in 2021.
Of course iPad OS will not make the iPad a "touchscreen Mac". Those who expect that or who expect 360 degree swiveling monitor/clamshell/tablet should look elsewhere, not in Apple. Apple obviously cannot introduce disruptive UI changes suddenly. What iPad OS signals is that Apple is now more determined to develop iPad independently of the iPhone and Mac product ranges, more determined in complying with Steve Jobs' Post-PC vision.

I wish Apple would just sort out their issue with nVidia. Not knocking ATI Radeon's here, but it would be nice to have the choice and it's Apple causing the block, not nVidia.
Simply not true. This is Nvidia who don’t allow their processors to be programmed at the “Metal” level. Apple as a computer producer has right to access and control a processor using up to the most granular elements of the processor’s instruction set. As such, Nvidia is a consumer company. It produces some consumer graphics cards, mostly for gaming, mining and alike. It is not an “OEM partner” to Apple like Intel, AMD, or Samsung.
You can read the article, Apple's management doesn't want Nvidia support in macOS . .  which goes into depth that's it's Apple, Not Nvidia who doesn't want support.

Source? I don’t know why they don’t exist on Macs, but I’ve read it’s a dispute over drivers. What details do you have that settle the matter?

See the link I posted above. Hope it helps.

So what? The whole article you linked explains how Nvidia has spectacularly failed to be an OEM Partner. It just supports the fact that Nvidia is nothing more than a consumer graphics card company.
