iMac, iMac 4k, iMac 5k, or iMac Pro - which iMac should you buy?
AppleInsider said:Best budget iMac
The only issue with the $1,299 3.6GHz quad-core -- which applies to the dual core model above as well -- is the storage. It comes equipped with a 1TB, 5400 RPM hard drive. If the main use for the machine is browsing or Facebook, or other "average" uses, this doesn't matter at all, but this is the still biggest limiting factor to this machine.
Ask kids whether they want 1 TB hard disk or 256 GB SSD: all wil cheer for 1 TB hard disk because they have a lot of games to store, mostly Windows ones.. Apple could default to 256 GB SSD on that model but then the family would run shortly out of space: families have a lot of fun, photos, videos, games, music and movies to store in their home computers, 1 TB hard disk is chosen with families in mind. -
Hands on and benchmark testing of Apple's 2019 iMac 4K
Ask kids whether they want 1 TB hard disk or 256 GB SSD: kids will always choose 1 TB HD because that will store a lot of games and even a BootCamp partition with a lot more of Windows games. This base configuration is an adequate home machine. What do you expect from a i3 machine? Apple could default to 256 GB SSD on that configuration but a family would shortly run out of space: people have a lot of photos and videos, music and movies, kids with a lot of games and who invade their parents' laptops, iPhones and iPads when they run out of space... Absolute nonsense to self-mutilate because of a hard disk on a i3 home configuration... -
Apple Arcade will service Apple's one billion gamers on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac
auxio said:Should be interesting to see how games which are designed for iPhone/iPad translate to the Mac/AppleTV, where you don't have a touchscreen. Without additional developer effort to adapt the game controls for those platforms, the only way I see it working well is if you're also using your iPhone/iPad for control. But if that's the case, why wouldn't you just play it on those devices directly?
Although the article says “The iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV are all supported by all of the games on the service, and offline play is available for all titles” that would reduce the inventory to a very small subset. I didn’t watch the Event, have to check if it is exactly presented as mentioned. -
Apple announces Apple TV+ service with Apple's unique programming, coming this Fall
StrangeDays said:hmurchison said:Oprah? LOL. Apple TV+ sounds like it's going to be trash.
Honestly the Apple Credit Card was the most exciting announcement. The rest of the stuff is stuff looks standard fare B List Actors and Directors.
Probably just save my money and watch it grow in the Apple Wallet app.
Yes there is already the Apple TV but people spend more time on their mobile devices than their TVs. And the viewing experience on these mobile devices is at least fragmented. Sloppy web, different crappy apps if they exist at all. If you consider international markets, the situation is worse than that.
...If that project holds, then the content producers will line up before Apple. -
Apple missing from list of companies supporting OpenXR AR and VR spec

There’s no evidence that not supporting a standard is giving Apple a boost. It just makes it more difficult for developers to get aboard Apple’s platform.
Developers didn't complain about DirectX (vs. OpenGL)
Developers don't complain about nVidia CUDA (vs. OpenCL)
It doesn't make it difficult for developers to get on board to a platform with a device base of a billion and counting.
