  • Early 2019 iPad mini reviews call it evolutionary, but best small tablet available

It is a sucker’s buy with only 3GB of RAM inside!  The 2015 Mini 4 has 2GB of RAM inside already!  LOL!  Upgrade only if you are in need of the pencil!  Otherwise, wait a year or two for a 4GB upgrade like Apple did with the Mini 3 to make Mini 4!  Apple now does Mini upgrades every 5 years! :s
RAM is battery killer. More RAM means less battery life. I can run a full suite of MS Office 365 within 1 GB RAM of the iPad Mini 2 of six years ago.

The Android tablet universe is an abysmal circle jerk. Android tablets are irrelevant. The only tablet on the market that's worthwhile is the iPad. Apple owns this market, period.
True however there is a lesser need for iPad specific apps. iPad is also falling into a browser/email content consumption platform, it needs fuller apps.
There are a lot of Cloud based business apps for iPad. Start with Microsoft to make your culture shock more digestible. The iPad is the future of mobile computing. Microsoft, IBM, AutoDesk, Adobe are all pushing it there...

  • Editorial: The iPad Air and the iPad mini have always been Apple's best tablets

I'm very disappointed in the Mini 5's memory options. 64 GB is not enough memory for the base configuration. I have the same gripe with the iPhone X and Xs. I realize it's an up-sell gimmick by Apple, but it doesn't make it any more palatable. Frankly, it looks like a money-grab to wring out the last few dollars of profitability. For the record, I'm an Apple shareholder and want the company to be profitable. I also want them to give the best value possible to the tens of millions of users of these devices, and being chintzy with memory in the new Mini and existing X/Xs isn't the way to to do it.

The base configuration should be 128 GB, on all devices, including the Mini and X/Xs. Considering the price being charged for them, the difference in added expense to Apple would be minimal, and it would go a long way to justifying the more expensive prices.

So today I'm speaking with my wallet. I would have upgraded my wife's iPad Mini 4 yesterday if it wasn't for this issue. I'll wait it out for Amazon, B&H or Adorama to put it on sale, or get a refurbished one when they show up on the Apple website.
Many people who don't store a lot of games and every incoming WhatsApp cat video on their iPhones don't need 128 GB; forcing them to pay for unneeded storage would not be fair. Besides, the ecosystem of almost the majority of iPhone users consists of more than one Apple Device: consider the Watch, the AirPods, the iPad, the Mac computers, the Apple TV... Since their digital life is not limited to only one smartphone, a more granular control over their purchase power is an added bonus Apple provides to them when setting price points.

If you disregard these facts, then you're investing on wrong stock...

  • Apple unveils 5th-gen iPad mini with Apple Pencil support, better Retina display

So many people told us (and were so sure of themselves in the process) that the Mini was dead, to get over it, there was no market for it etc.

They were wrong just like they were wrong on so many other things.
Absolutely not. You seem to lack any perspective on these updates. By updating the mini to use the same chip and same display technology and the same storage controllers, etc. that Apple is mass producing for many other iPads.. reduces the cost to maintain this product as part of the lineup. Which is merely an alternative to discontinuing it. That doesn't mean this product is popular at all, or has a market. It means that Apple wanted to keep the product to serve what little interest it has, but to do so they needed to bring it inline and have it benefit from economies of scale. You'll notice they didn't reduce the price at all, even though they cut the storage in half, which they would have done if they cared about the product. They don't. They don't care if it sells in volume at all. Their efforts toward this version have done nothing but reduce their cost at maintaining it.
So your whole point is why Apple didn’t reduce the price while it cut the storage in half. A12 Bionic is nothing, Pencil compatible 120 Hz display is nothing, the highest resolution on an iPad is nothing, P3 is nothing but the storage is everything and shame on you Apple for cutting it down ! Why don’t you write just this: Apple is DOOMED !

The addition of the Pencil obviously increased the price because of the required hardware change. Even so, the price is really not out of line for those that prefer this form factor.

    IMHO, it’ll sell like hotcakes.
The addition of the Pencil + A12 processor, and yes it will sell like hotcakes. This is the XR of the A12 iPads...
