  • How to get more from Mojave's updated Dock or learn how to replace it entirely

    javair said:
It'd be a pain to not use the dock. I put only my frequently used apps there. Been using it since the first iteration of OS X, and from back then up to today, I place it on the right side of the screen. The right side of the screen is where the old finder shortcuts and launcher used to sit in OS 7, 8, & 9, so it made sense to me that this too is a launcher. I always thought Microsoft converters would like the dock on the left side of the screen as that is where they were use dot seeing their Windows shortcuts and such. Having it on the bottom of the screen was annoying. It seemed in the way, and it made my window viewing areas even shorter.
Dock on the left was a NeXT practice.

  • Apple in 2019 and the case of the expensive iPhone

I agree with Cmka~+ in that price is never an issue with Apple products but everything, including an iPhone, has their point of diminishing return. While to this day, I've felt my iPhone 1 to iPhone 8+ is the greatest piece of technology I've ever owned, I cannot justify the price of a newer one...the innovations are just not as appealing as larger size, TouchID, super camera, Siri, and other features were to impel me to purchase.

To be honest, I'd rather have TouchID than FaceID, I feel my 8+ camera is as good as I need, and the screen clarity & size meet my needs. Maybe XRS or XI will bring something more robust, but for now, I don't mind waiting as I'm as satisfied as I've ever been with my iPhone.
What appears to you as "diminishing returns" is that Apple delivers at every price point. You can still get an iPhone 8+ at that price point that may easily drive X series out of the equation. With other brands if you don't buy the latest and the biggest one you're screwed up. With Apple, you can even buy the cheapest one and it just works... I am as satisfied as you with my iPhone 8+ that I don't plan to upgrade for at least three years more. The reason I bought an 8+ last year was not the diminishing returns, I just couldn't afford the X at that time. For Android switchers or for those upgrading from older models there are absolutely no diminishing returns in the X series.

  • Apple slashes iPhone XR prices for Chinese resellers in bid to kickstart demand

This is a usual channel practice, nothing new: wholesale price adjusted to commitment. Apple does this in every country with different products, not only in China.

    Channel is everything.

  • Apple's guidance correction in China would be great news from Samsung

Anyway I admire your enthusiasm with technology news and I can only empathize with that. It may be true that those guys may be the most innovative these days. But there is a long way to go from innovation to business success, especially if your competitor is Apple or if you want to operate in Apple's scale. If you want to applaud something Chinese here it is: they landed on the dark side of the moon. That is innovation: not a new wifi chip...
Try not to feed the trolls.

In any case, its FAR side of the moon, not dark side.  It's a nice accomplishment but not much different from their earlier mission or all that innovative.  NASA just visited Ultima Thule which is the farthest flyby of any object (4B miles) in history.
Yes, just another example of the problem of scale I'd already emphasized.

Huawei is working on numerous fronts and at a very high level. The state of the art isn't limited to a smartphone processor.

That's why Huawei has its own in-house designed WiFi chipset (Hi1103) which is the fastest mobile wifi chipset on the market.
Great. Everything is wifi these days... Faster wifi will make your life easier on the road, on the beach, during trekking etc..

It has its own 5G modem.
How many worldwide operators supported? Wait, is 5G worldwide yet?

Its own storage media (which it will open to the industry).
    Without crashing onto patent barriers?

Its own AI hardware (Ascend) Excellent battery technology and charging etc:
AI hardware is not such a mysterious thing, just a special chip designed to execute some ML math operations significantly faster. What counts for AI are the abstract ML models, that require a painful process of collecting and curating large amounts of relevant data.
