  • Face, the future: the new touch-less ID of iPhone X

Multi biometrics is what's next. Not uniquely Touch ID of Face ID, but both. There is no reason Apple don't implement Face ID into the 8 series. The bezels offer a lot of space to embed a lot of sensors.
Not going to happen. That's just what those who fear change are clinging onto now. When Apple can get TrueDepth cheap enough to scale they will phase out Touch ID as you don't need both. You'll see. Then all this worry and panic will seem like a dream as it fades away....again.
How do you know that me or anyone won't need both? Speak for yourself. There are a lot of meaningful anecdotes posted here favoring either Face ID or Touch ID. Let people post their anecdotes, don't restrain them by shouting you don't need this you don't need that...

Interesting to see that Apple now has a phone lineup that spans from $350 to $1150, wow. That $1150 price point feels just absurd. Will be interesting to see how this sells. I guess I'll be holding on to my (perfectly awesome) iPhone 7 for at least another year or two.
It will sell. Apple come and get my money!!!!!. Life is short. Enjoy it with the best devices in the world. Can't wait until Oct 27 to order the 256G black unit for me and the silver one for my wife.
Life is short, yeah, but the middle class is shrinking and the upper class is tiny. There's no way I'll buy this thing living in poverty. I could justify the 6s I pay $25 a month for because my iPhone 4 was just too abandoned (and slowed by iOS 6; forget 7). This is a luxury product. I refused to call prior iPhones and iPad luxury products because of their utility, but the Apple Watch and iPhone X are absolutely luxury products.
iPhone X is not a luxury product. It is expensive because $130 of its $999 price goes to Samsung as OLED price, according to Kuo.

I like the notch. It makes a break with styling. Android phones have been there too with similiar negative opinions from some but I like this design over say, the Sharp screen with corners cut off.

You'll have to ask me in a couple of years if I still like it, though.

From the photos I don't like the bezel. Seems like it's wearing a bumper case but built in but as that's likely a photo problem, I'll reserve final judgment until I hold one in my hand.

I’d love to know why Apple decided to embrace the notch. Was there no seamless way to hide it without it looking like a hack? Now that they’ve gone OLED I’m surprised we didn’t get dark mode which might have helped hide it.
    I love the notch.

    Makes the X very unique

The truth is for most photo's, video's, and Apps - the top or side of the image does not have much important information.
Would you watch a movie in a theater with a dent at the left side of the screen?

    Face ID occurs automatically
    Nope. Don’t like that.
It wouldn't say "Use Apple Pay with your face" for something happening automatically. Face ID must be triggered some way. Maybe the detection of the NFC is enough to enter into Face ID mode, without moving the device to the "use position". And Face ID may also work from distances greater than 20 inch.

Great article thank Dan.  I'm new to AppleInsider to really appreciated this article.

I'm quite taken with the X.  It's the upgrade I'm wanting from my 6S.  My wife has a 7 Plus and it's great.  I want something with a comparable screen which fits in a a suit trousers (as I'm a Doctor).
You won't get more screen height in landscape mode. If you do a lot of landscape switching consider the 8 Plus.
    How do you figure that?

    750/2 = 375

    Same as iPhone 7
