More seriously - this right to repair movement really started with companies like John Deere making it impossible for famers to repair their own tractors. This is about a lot more than Apple - the focus here is on a very narrow segment of a much larger problem!

The full paragraph from the article is "Our study demonstrates that magnet reversion mode may be triggered when the iPhone 12 Pro Max is placed directly on the skin over an implantable cardiac device and thus has the potential to inhibit lifesaving therapies. Select devices from all three major device companies were found to have magnetic susceptibility."

Yes, WD purchased HGST in 2012!

They still use HGST drives (at least early on), but some of the larger capacity portable drives used WD mechanisms.

What you're seeing is the shareholder insistence on growth to boost the stock value. If you can't actually sell more of your product, buy out somebody else. Growth!
