Apple Maps, Weather app now shows Crimea as Russian territory
fastasleep said:bonobob said:It shows as Russian territory in the US as well. There is a border shown between Crimea and Ukraine, but not between Crimea and Russia. Disgusting.
You also see that with Israel/Gaza/West Bank/Golan, etc.
Google Maps show much the same. -
Apple working on privacy-based lighting system, unique headlights for car
mike eggleston said:My concern with the side mirror just being a monitor is what if the camera fails? A mirror can only "fail" if it is broken. A camera has a lot more parts and therefor a lot more points of failure.
The backup camera is occasionally distorted by splashes of water or mud. I've had snow on the front bumper partly obscure that part of the birds-eye view.
The rear view mirror has a built in high resolution display connected to a wide angle camera in the tailgate. It works well under certain circumstances. You get an unobstructed 3 lane wide view to the rear, but it gets a bit washed out/overwhelmed by headlights at night. The worst part is that every time you glance at it you have to refocus on a screen that's only about 18" from your eyes. -
Phone numbers of nearly 420M Facebook users exposed online
spice-boy said:sflocal said:Like most people's phone numbers aren't already out there on the Internet for every phone scammer to use anyways?
This is a non-issue.Still waiting for the management of Equifax to be jailed. That's REAL damaging information that was leaked. -
Virgin Australia bans all MacBook, MacBook Pro models from checked bags
That seems like quite the overreaction!
"”Since 2006 three cargo jets have been destroyed and four pilots killed by in-flight fires that investigators say were either started by batteries or made more severe by their proximity.”"
I've seen that on "Mayday" on Discovery Channel in Canada.
Those were industrial sized shipments, not a small number of laptops. -
First class action suit alleging damages from Siri recordings filed
I don't think I've seen anybody actually post (although I know AppleInsider affirmed they were there) the relevant text from the Terms and Conditions so here they are:
"When you use Siri or Dictation, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple in order to convert what you say into text and to process your requests. Your device will also send Apple other information, such as your first name and nickname; the names, nicknames, and relationship with you (e.g., “my dad”) of your address book contacts; and song names in your collection (collectively, your “User Data”). All of this data is used to help Siri and Dictation understand you better and recognize what you say. It is not linked to other data that Apple may have from your use of other Apple services. By using Siri or Dictation, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, and use of this information, including your voice input and User Data, to provide and improve Siri, Dictation, and dictation functionality in other Apple products and services."
Collection and use are in the last sentence.
