  • Microsoft says that if Apple isn't stopped now, its antitrust behavior will just get worse...

Are their alternative Xbox stores? Can I side load games onto my Xbox?
You can register your Xbox for a one-time $20 fee and load whatever software you want.

  • Dutch App Store change allows dating apps to take third-party payments

I assume Apple will start charging a hosting fee for developers who don’t use Apple’s payment system. No court can force a “store” to allow a “seller” to use that store’s facilities free of charge. If they do, I can’t wait to see other sellers demand free store space at every store in the Netherlands. I’m talking about grocery stores, clothing stores and even automobile dealerships.
In that case, they should force them to outright allow alternative means of installing software.

The App Store being the only way to install software is absolutely ridiculous in 2022, it's a monopoly whether you want to admit it or not.

  • NSO considering killing Pegasus spyware under financial & lawsuit pressure

I would rather Apple actually fix flaws like these instead of hiding behind the censorship of lawsuits.

Maybe if they actually paid their security researchers properly, they wouldn't have this problem... a 0-day, no-click infection on the latest software should easily get a payout of multiple millions considering what black hat agencies would pay for it... and all Apple pays is $1M, and that's assuming they don't find some reason to de-escalate the level of severity in order to pay less...

Apple should be paying more than black hats, not saying they will pay a certain amount and not even paying that (or fixing the flaws)

Apple really dropped the ball on this.

  • Epic vs. Apple App Store changes will wait until after the appeal

if Apple is accurate when it says it may take months to complete, then either Apple will be in violation of a court order, or Apple will have to shut down its store to avoid being in violation of a court order. There are no other options. I'm hoping for the latter, of course.
There’s the option that Apple does all the behind-the-scenes work to be prepared and never implements it until they have to. That way they can be ready to flip that switch if it becomes necessary.
Apple already has to have that switch to comply with laws in other countries.

Well, unless they refuse to comply...

  • Apple fighting Russia over alternative App Store payments

Many people posting here love Apple's rules for developers and customers even though they limit what they are allowed to do with the devices they own. However, Apple has to play by Russia's rules when it sells products in that country. The same goes for China and even in the USA. Will these same defenders of arbitrary rules be consistent when the tables are turned and it is Apple that is forced to follow them? I think not.
Anti-steering is not an "arbitrary" rule. It's a rule that is widely used throughout the global business world. There's nothing new or unusual about it at all. Companies that operate their own stores do not want to directly promote alternate places of purchase to customers when those customers are using their store. It's always been up to the customer to "shop around" and see if they can get a better price somewhere else. Considering that the iPhone allows customers access to the internet and social media etc., there is no barrier to "shopping around" for an iPhone user.
You can't "shop around" for iOS apps, the only place you can currently obtain them is through the App Store.

That's the most important fact in all these antitrust complaints, you can't go anywhere else, so you have to pay Apple's 15-30%
