  • 2022 iPad Pro M2 review: Six months later, powerful and still stale

Agree. I’m disappointed that Apple still didn’t add the possibility to instantly switch the iPad Pro to macOS after connecting it to an external monitor-and-keyboard (or a thunderbolt docking station), thereby turning it into a MacBook.

I’m disappointed because Apple usually add extra usability features (benefitting it’s users) and this seems to be an obvious one: all the hardware is in place.
But in this case they seem to only think about money (just benefitting themselves) being afraid of cannibalising their MacBook sales by adding that feature.

    That’s a shame,

  • Apple looking to drop Broadcom as wi-fi, bluetooth, cellular supplier

Broadcom is an industry leader. If Apple can replace them, that would be huge.
I am more concerned with how it is possible to replace Broadcom's tech without using Broadcom's patents. It isn't as bad as the situation with Qualcomm and mobile tech, but still.
No need to be concerned: replacing Broadcom’s tech doesn’t mean Apple not using Broadcom’s patents. The goal of Apple is not creating independency from Broadcom as a company, but from Broadcom’s chip design. The goal would to be able to create chips that are better suited voor devices that Apple has in mind for the future. Sort of like how Apple is making chips with ARM’s patents, but with their own typical Apple design. It means Apple can leave out unused parts of Broadcom’s chip design to be able to, for example, better miniaturise their chips.

  • Brydge ProDock review: A vertical Thunderbolt 4 docking station for modern Macs

I don’t understand the benefit of this type of dock: forcing you to ditch a screen just to be able to use it in clamshell mode…
Why not making a stand to put my opened MacBook on and have al this docking features built into the stand? Adding a short retractable Thunderbolt 4 cable to dock it and voilà: two screens with your MacBook ergonomically lifted up and running! Add that wireless phone charger underneath the stand and I’d be an exciting dock!

  • Apple rumored to be testing macOS for M2 iPad Pro

It could be true, but not the way the ‘leaker’ probably thinks.
I think the iPad could very well shift to macOS as soon as you connect it to a keyboard, mouse and an extra screen. And to iPadOS as soon as you disconnect it. The hardware is capable enough.
The only compatibility would then need to be the apps working in both modes, but this would be a significant effort for developers as well. It’d be a huge operation.
Maybe Apple is laying the groundwork for this? Would be nice to draw something with the Pencil in Photoshop for iPadOS and then fine tune it in macOS on a large screen, all on the same tablet.

  • iPhone must use USB-C by 2024, says EU law

I can’t suppress the feeling that EU law makers just do not understand this matter: they consistently talk about chargers which is a good thing. But forcing device connections to use USB C is effectively just about the cables.

In the case of Apple, all chargers are already USB C, so what’s the problem this law is solving?? To force al cables to USB C? That’s stupid and hardly contributes to reducing ewaste.
