Microsoft is not just about Windows. They have are a major player in cloud services, behind only Amazon. And under satya nadella, Microsoft has transformed in a major way. From entering core hardware space with computer devices to hololens to headphones, buying and building some of the best dev tools, it has come a long way since the days of having Windows as it's main revenue generator. It's trying to be more like Apple and Google for its consumer facing products, and you can always debate how Apple's products are better, but still all this push has impacted it positively.

After having used the Macbook Pro with touch bar for 4 years, I can tell you that it's been basically useless for me. Even a hindrance. And I think most people feel the same. Otherwise why would Apple remove it?

The only thing I will miss about the touch bar is the spelling suggestions which were handy.

That certainly would be on their mind, but it can't be the only reason. What if Apple doesn't agree? They can't risk billions. And I wonder why Apple haven't already considered them, given that every other car manufacturer rejected them and that they are planning to do the manufacturing on their own as per the latest reports? 

And fyi, Foxconn already has signed an electric car deal with Xiaomi, so it's not just about Apple. They are just seeing this as an upcoming business. With so many non-car companies entering electric car production/design, those companies would need a manufacturing partner and as we have seen, existing car companies aren't much willing to do that.
