  • Apple asks suppliers to make 90 million iPhone 14 units

    It seems unlikely that such figures are accurate. Apple has numerous manufacturers and a complex supply chain. It would need a lot of leaks from many sources to know this. I doubt many inside Apple know the real figures and I’m sure there’s a lot of forwarding planing, variable quantities with scheduled deliveries and options depending on how well sales go.

  • iPhone 14 Pro will get better OLED screen than iPhone 14

    Let’s face it. Display quality it superb on the current iPhone Pro’s. The cameras, battery life and performance are all fantastic. While I welcome any improvements it would take a lot for me to upgrade from my iPhone 13 Pro. 

    I only upgraded from a XS last year, mainly to get the 3x and 0.5x and because I could pass my old phone down to my daughter. 

    I’ve always thought that a 30% CPU performance improvement is pretty negligible too and hardly perceptible to most users so while these improvements are welcome I think I’ll be keeping my devices for several years before upgrading. 

    I may upgrade from an Apple Watch 5 to an 8 this year but the days when I would rush to get the latest device each year are long gone.

    It’s impressive that Apple have achieved such a huge step with the M1 and such major updates to so many products during a pandemic and lockdowns. Their staff must be incredibly dedicated.

    I’ve been buying second hand Airport Express devices to use for Airplay 2. They work really well and can work as an extra WiFi hotspot too to extend the WiFi range around a big house.

    I assume it will be supported by Apple TV connected via HDMI to a Dolby Atmos AV receiver too - that’s the obvious use case but not mentioned here.
